Choosing counseling can be a monumental step in life's journey. I consider it a privilege to come along side you as you are seeking insight, growth and change. I enjoy working with women via phone therapy. My approach to counseling involves consideration of the whole person. Your mind, your body and your spirit. I utilize several counseling theories - Cognitive Behavioral, Solution-Focused, and Emotion-Focused among others. Mostly though, I focus on meeting you where you are and without judgment so that you can experience the growth you desire.

"I feel a true heart calling to work with those who are hurting and in need. I believe that we are created to fellowship with the Lord and called to experience a life of joy through a personal and growing relationship with Him.
I believe a person's heart is their well spring of life, and true change comes for a person when their heart is changed."

Do the people around you rely on you because you’re an “over-achiever” or the one who always has it all together? You're putting on a smile while you say “yes” to one more thing, but inwardly you're panicking about how overwhelmed you feel. Or maybe you feel like you’re never perfect enough, no matter how hard you’re trying. Do you wear your constant busyness like a badge of honor because “everyone is just busy, right?” and to ask to slow down might seem like you're just lazy? I bet you look calm and collected on the outside, but do your racing thoughts keep you constantly on edge? If you're nodding your head right now, I get it.

You're tired, frustrated and just want peace at home! What works for one of your children doesn't work for the other and that's frustrating. Wish your teen girl came with an instruction manual? Your teen seems lonely, withdrawn, struggling with social issues, or can't control their anger and you feel hopeless because you don't know what to do to help. As parents we want our children to be healthy and happy yet sometimes we can't fix the situation for them and that makes us feel a failure as a parent.

We have interactions with others, and with ourselves (internally) everyday. When there is a lack of connection on any level we can become distressed or any number of things. From discouraged to depressed or anxious or just withdrawn. I love working with clients who are seeking to find a balanced and healthy daily interaction within themselves and hopefully with others. It is my heartfelt belief that we are all unique and created to connect with those around us on a level that both brings peace for ourselves and gives back to others in our relationships.

"I knew it would be hard, but why does everyone else seem to be handling it better than me?" "I'm doing it right, but I don't feel like enough." I get it! This period in life is different and difficult. Life transitions, like going off to college, living on your own, parenting, marriage, adulting, and divorce are all fraught with self-doubt and judgments.

I make it my goal to be a safe place for those who want to explore concerns, work through painful memories, increase insight and learn healthier ways of coping with life’s challenges. Trauma comes in a variety of forms such as abuse/neglect, death of a loved one, divorce/infidelity, natural disasters, poverty, severe illness/injury and violence. These experiences can lead to symptoms such as anger, anxiety, guilt, unexplained pain, sadness and self-destructive behavior.

Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed by your feelings? Maybe you often feel anxious and overthink situations? You want to feel more at peace in your life and around others. Or maybe you feel like you are never perfect enough, despite your best efforts? Constant worry about what others think of you keeps you up at night. Do you stay really busy to avoid your feelings of inadequacy or sadness? Does self-doubt creep into your mind in spite of trying to build confidence within yourself? If this resonates with you, I get it.

Coming to counseling is one of the bravest things anyone can do, as it requires emotional strength, humility, and determination to make changes in areas that you may be experiencing some frustration. I consider it a great privilege to come alongside others as they navigate through difficult circumstances, and learn how to get from where they currently are, to where they want to be. I am honored to be a part of their journey of self-discovery, as well as the discovery of truth in their lives.

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
