Working from an attachment view point, I strive to provide nurturing and consistent care. I look at how the functioning of family system and caregivers shapes thought patterns, self-images, and behaviors. Through DBT , I explore how behaviors are shaped through attachments to caregivers as well as current relationships.

I am trained in Internal Family Systems Therapy (IFS), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy.
We all need someone to hear our story, to respect our tears, and to help us be courageous as we walk the path toward healing. I stay present through your pain, hurt, and discovery. Trauma, doubt, and fear can easily consume our thoughts, and provoke emotional distress and a sense of loss. Beginning the processing step can feel scary, but it certainly doesn't have to be a journey you take alone. I am here, ready to hear your story and help you navigate these feelings and reconnect you with your authentic self. I work with teens, adults, families and couples. Let me know how I can help.

You're tired, frustrated and just want peace at home! What works for one of your children doesn't work for the other and that's frustrating. Wish your teen girl came with an instruction manual? Your teen seems lonely, withdrawn, struggling with social issues, or can't control their anger and you feel hopeless because you don't know what to do to help. As parents we want our children to be healthy and happy yet sometimes we can't fix the situation for them and that makes us feel a failure as a parent.

You should be proud. It takes a significant level of strength to take the step of looking for a counselor. I applaud starting the process... but don't give up now! We all face challenges stages of the path of life - mental, physical, spiritual, relational; all of it. It can significantly help to find an understanding and caring professional who brings their heart, soul as well as training and a team model, to walk alongside of us along those challenges stages. My team and I would love to come alongside.

Traditional counseling has failed many of my clients. I am an extremely proactive strategic intervention coach and somatic trauma processing therapist who helps clients heal generational, childhood, and past relationship emotional wounds so as to reclaim their conditioned defense mechanisms and melt into new experiences of flow (where it takes minimal effort for us to be us). Understanding and processing the mechanisms of how we subconsciously defend ourselves can open us to moving into integration of our parts in a way that provides fresh clarity and energy in creating authentic/integrity relationships and a blooming life.

I enjoy working with the full life span, beginning at 2-years-old, through a wide variety of concerns. I consider it a deep honor to be entrusted on my clients’ paths to wellness and enjoy when clients are able to pursue wholeness, even when they have no words. Using art, play, music, breath work, mindfulness, animal-assisted therapy, EMDR, developmental theories, and other evidence-based treatments, I seek to approach clients with cultural humility and believe in utilizing my clients’ strengths in the journey toward healing.

No matter the reason or issue that has brought you to my profile - welcome and congrats on taking the first step in getting the help and support you need! There are so many reasons people seek out a therapists. Whatever your reason is and no matter how many times you may have tried to resolve it on your own, I hope you know how strong you are for not giving up! Resilience can be a strength but it doesn't have to be your only armor in your battles. Counseling can provide you more options. A great thing about counseling - it's for everyone because we all have needs and we could all use some support and/or help from time to time!

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
