You're tired, frustrated and just want peace at home! What works for one of your children doesn't work for the other and that's frustrating. Wish your teen girl came with an instruction manual? Your teen seems lonely, withdrawn, struggling with social issues, or can't control their anger and you feel hopeless because you don't know what to do to help. As parents we want our children to be healthy and happy yet sometimes we can't fix the situation for them and that makes us feel a failure as a parent.

I can help with your troubled teen , your off balance career, your grief, marital stress, and chronic anxiety or depression.
We all need someone to hear our story, to respect our tears, and to help us be courageous as we walk the path toward healing. I stay present through your pain, hurt, and discovery. Trauma, doubt, and fear can easily consume our thoughts, and provoke emotional distress and a sense of loss. Beginning the processing step can feel scary, but it certainly doesn't have to be a journey you take alone. I am here, ready to hear your story and help you navigate these feelings and reconnect you with your authentic self. I work with teens, adults, families and couples. Let me know how I can help.

Not sure where to go or what to do, but something needs to change? Your child comes home with misconduct reports from school and nothing you try is helping. Your teen is struggling with peers, depression or anxiety and you want to know how to help. Maybe you are not a parent and life’s challenges have become overwhelming and difficult to face. Stop and take a deep breath. Life isn’t easy and the challenges can be difficult to navigate. Parents become overwhelmed and frustrated when they feel like they cannot help their children cope. Children can struggle socially and emotionally and as parents we don’t always have the answers.

As a therapist, I have worked in several different modalities in serving adolescent teens, and adult individuals with addiction, trauma, and other challenges.
Do you feel alone as though no one understands your pain or your struggles? Your situation is unique, yet you are not alone. Sometimes, life appears to be unmanageable, and things may have spiraled for the worse. These precipitating events you have encountered have now led you to seek solutions and counseling for guidance in your time of need. Maybe you have done some self-reflection and you do not like what you see. You aspire to improve your shortcomings but do not know where to start or who to reach out to. That is where I step in. I am dedicated to assisting you with becoming the best version of yourself amid adversity.

As an experienced teen and woman's therapist, I believe that every teen and woman can feel confident, secure, and trust in themselves.
You want to appear successful and like you have it "all together" but deep down are struggling to feel confident in who you are or cope with challenging experiences that have occurred in your life. You may be fed up with anxiety and depression, feeling insecure or left behind. You might not even remember a time things didn't feel this way. But one thing is for sure: you're ready for some relief. You're ready to be confident. You're ready to thrive. Most of all, you're ready to trust yourself. Give me a call or text to schedule your first appointment.

Life can be difficult—full of struggles, challenges, changes, and the unexpected. We keep these events in our minds, whether at the front to consciously influence all of our decisions, or packed away in a box in a corner, to be dealt with ‘in the future’. When your box begins to overflow or you realize that it is time to open it, I’m here to help you unpack, sort, and re-pack the box. My goal is to help you regain control of the box, so that the box no longer controls you.

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

Trauma can make it feel like there’s a constant rain cloud following you around, impacting your relationships, sleep, work, and outlook on life. You might feel like you're on a never ending roller coaster and it can be scary to take that first step in meeting someone new to help you find sunnier days and a way off that never ending roller coaster - there is hope. I believe in teamwork and genuine human connection as an essential part of counseling. I hope you’ll take a moment to connect by giving me a call or sending me an email to see how we can work together to find sunnier days.

I enjoy working with the full life span, beginning at 2-years-old, through a wide variety of concerns. I consider it a deep honor to be entrusted on my clients’ paths to wellness and enjoy when clients are able to pursue wholeness, even when they have no words. Using art, play, music, breath work, mindfulness, animal-assisted therapy, EMDR, developmental theories, and other evidence-based treatments, I seek to approach clients with cultural humility and believe in utilizing my clients’ strengths in the journey toward healing.

I have an extensive background in working with those who come from and/or are in a hard place. Much of my social work experience was gained during my 15 years with Child Protective Services. Since 2015, I have worked as a psychotherapist, both through private practice and UT Health. I provide individual, group, marital, and family therapy and enjoy working with children (preferably ages 10+) and adults. I also specialize in working with first responders, veterans, and sexual trauma victims. Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
