Your teenager is struggling. They are anxious, depressed, or both. They don't seem to be able to maintain focus and are under-performing in school. They might have suicidal thoughts, be self-harming, or have turned to alcohol or drugs to cope. You are worried about their future, but don't know where to turn. I can help. Most of my clients are middle and high school students who fall in one or more of these categories. I speak Tik Tok, Snapchat and Instagram. I have tattoos, wear Vans, listen to alternative music, and love a good meme. In short, I connect very well with teens and their parents.

Difficult situations of the past can have lasting effects on our futures. You’ve seen this first hand with your child or teen . Their life has been altered at such a young age, and they don’t know how to express their feelings towards it. So they express it by acting out; by being angry, not socializing like they used to, or by breaking the rules. It’s a burden seeing them go through this, and not knowing how to help them.

Our team of therapists are trained to support your whole family: your children, your teenager , your family as a whole, you, your partner, you and your partner as a couple.
You're busy and anxious. The relationships in your life feel tense. Your child's behavior is concerning you, and your relationship with your partner feels nonexistent. You are so busy balancing everything you don't feel like yourself anymore. You feel like you've tried everything to get the spark back, but the harder you try the more tension builds between your child, partner, and self. You're not sure if you can fulfill all your roles anymore. It feels hard.

Child, Adolescent , Adult, Couple & Family.
Therapy is the process whereby an individual, couple or family becomes self-empowered and strengthened though developing an understanding of themselves and others fostered by love. It is how one explores their needs and goals or desires to promote emotional health and sense of well-being at any and every age. No one and nothing is one size fits all. Every person is unique and so will be our approach to helping ease the discomfort, worry and frustration. I am a strengths-based therapist. This means: look at what you are already doing "right" and build from there. You are always safe with me to say anything, literally. I will listen.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
