I practice Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) within a psychodynamic framework.
You have a Teen coping with social and academic demands such as you’ve never faced. Academic and social pressure are at an all-time high. You worry how they are coping, but they aren’t exactly an open book. Were you? Or you're an Adult navigating the demands of career and family. You weren’t prepared for the difficulties of life in this day and age; how could you be? These are weird times. You feel it: the tension, the effort it takes to hold it together. You feel “wound up,” tense, on edge or have trouble turning your mind off. You feel discouraged, unsure, self-critical. Maybe your emotions and behavior seem “off.” Need a hand?

I practice psychodynamic psychotherapy and pull from both CBT and mindfulness-based practices.
Therapy is an experience that can benefit everyone. It allows us to take the time to mindfully look closely at ourselves. It can help us reflect on how to manage difficult life changes, loneliness and challenging relationships. Everyone experiences stress and worry, and speaking with a therapist who is nonjudgmental and accepting can help us understand how to meet our professional, personal, and relationship needs. I am a psychotherapist with 10+ years experience. I use a practical and flexible approach to treat problems such as anxiety, depression, substance misuse and LGBTQ+ concerns.

I offer a mix of evidence-based short-term therapy modalities including CBT, DBT, ACT, and brief psychodynamic psychotherapy.
It's time to live the life you want to live - and decide what that life looks like. I see adolescents and young adults (13-35) and specialize in anxiety, LGBTQIA+ issues (including identity and family conflict), eating disorders, and chronic illness. Sometimes this might mean learning and practicing new skills to help you manage problems and obstacles; other times it may mean really exploring within yourself. Frequently, it means recognizing that negative thought patterns are getting in your way - and we can work together to find individualized solutions for you!

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
