I am dedicated to helping adults achieve their goals for healthy relationships and fulfilling lives. Many people have problems with personal and professional relationships due to unhealthy relationship patterns. I collaborate with my clients to help them with communications skills, conflict resolution, and setting appropriate boundaries . Unaddressed
trauma
can lead to fear and anxiety caused by unrecognized triggers. The effects of both can cause people to develop relationship dynamics that they are unhappy with and do not possess the skills to correct. I have extensive training on processing
trauma
and I use modalities that are designed to make that process easier for my clients.

You feel like you're endlessly busy, like you get the necessities done but are left completely drained by the end of the day. You’re exhausted and overwhelmed by endless obligations. It feels like your emotions are out of control; you’re irritable and on edge. You constantly feel stressed out to the max. It feels impossible, but you dream of enjoying time with family, completing your daily tasks without it feeling like a marathon, responding to texts and calls from friends without dread, and picking up long forgotten hobbies. You want to feel motivated to go on a hike, organize the kitchen, or finish that craft project.

When
trauma
hits us, surviving becomes essential. Some of us survive by creating distance/rigid boundaries and maybe anticipating the reactions and emotions of others. As for the rest of us- we use and do just about anything not to "feel". Surviving starts as a means of protection and evolves into a way of life. Operating on autopilot, we are "just getting by" in our spiritual lives, at our jobs, in our finances, and with our loved ones.

When life becomes overwhelming, we often find it difficult to reach out for care. Maybe you are struggling with work, school, relationships, or battling expectations with perfectionism, people-pleasing, or avoidance. Often we struggle with ourselves - our inner critic, our self-doubt, our impulses, or overwhelming emotions like anxiety, anger, frustration, and hopelessness. We often believe that it is our responsibility to “figure it out” and shoulder the burdens of life alone, but it is not. You are worthy of attention, care, and healing, and have come to the right place to start this process.

The past few years have provided experiences of working with clients dealing with depression, anxiety, anger, Bipolar Disorder and various traumas (
PTSD
, emotional, sexual, parental alienation).
While it is common to feel "unraveled" when daily stressors or various traumas occur, everyone has the ability to find meaningful solutions. I believe that everyone is unique, so the solution will be different for each person. My desire is to assist clients (ages 10-90), including adolescents, adults and couples, find a balance between a healthy need for relationship and possible psychological, social or spiritual factors within a framework of personal responsibility. After teaching English and Art for 23 years, I experienced the power of expressive arts to unlock inner voices that help students/clients achieve hope and confidence.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
