Do you suffer from trauma, due to
sexual abuse
, abusive relationships, unresolved childhood trauma, and generational trauma? We hold on to that trauma in their Physical bodies without knowing. This and the emotional trauma an individual endures shows up in our lives even when the action is over. Every relationship romantic or otherwise is affected as well as how we show up in our lives with work and other activities we take on. This can show up in an abundance of ways. Deep down we know something is off and want to heal and show differently however we don't know how.

You're facing overwhelming challenges. You work hard to ensure everyone else is happy. You take care of everyone at your expense. You work relentlessly to keep up appearances. You’re always exhausted, often crying alone in the shower. You constantly walk on eggshells, tension is always building, you're constantly alert waiting for the next argument or incident. You're turning into the person you promised you would never become. You’re not yourself anymore. You are on the brink of failure, letting others down. Your mind will not turn off, you feel completely out of control. You're at your breaking point and change needs to happen.

For 20 years, I have helped children and their families cope with bad things that sometimes happen in a child's life. This includes abuse, divorce, school issues, loss of a loved one, or low self-esteem. I understand the ripple effects that these can have on family members and how hard it is to watch your child struggle. I use a neuroscience-informed approach to create a safe environment for clients to release the emotional pain in a way that makes the most effective use of your time.

Growing up in a large, blended family, I learned firsthand how to deal with relationships of all kinds. I counseled veterans and civilians suffering from PTSD and childhood trauma. This led me to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which can yield remarkable results in processing and healing trauma responses. In addition to EMDR I also use Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT and DBT. There is a solution to end the cycle of suffering. We can be free of emotional pain caused by trauma and childhood experiences to live our best lives now.

When life becomes overwhelming, we often find it difficult to reach out for care. Maybe you are struggling with work, school, relationships, or battling expectations with perfectionism, people-pleasing, or avoidance. Often we struggle with ourselves - our inner critic, our self-doubt, our impulses, or overwhelming emotions like anxiety, anger, frustration, and hopelessness. We often believe that it is our responsibility to “figure it out” and shoulder the burdens of life alone, but it is not. You are worthy of attention, care, and healing, and have come to the right place to start this process.

Life is a journey, and sometimes it leads to unexpected detours that can leave us feeling stuck and incapable of changing direction. Sometimes those times in life requires just a little help to get us back on the right path. We can trust God who gives His trustworthy Word as our compass, using it to lead us into deeper fellowship with Him. Jesus said, “I came that they have life, and have it abundantly” John 10:10. We were created to live lives of peace, joy, and fulfillment. If you are not experiencing the abundant life that Christ freely gives, it may be as a result of veering of the path that God has intended for you.

I always like to say God gave me children early in my adult life because I was meant to help children in their own life struggles. I fully believe that God has plans for us even if we do not fully understand them! When our children face struggles that we cannot understand or feel equipped to help them with, we can feel lost and overwhelmed. Children and adolescents are often placed in situation and have experiences that are out of their control.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
