members and how hard it is to watch your child struggle. I use a neuroscience-informed approach to create a safe environment for clients to release the emotional pain in a way that makes the most effective use of your time.

family
conflict grief, self-harm and suicide.
An ideal client seeks change, guidance and willing to take the steps in healing. My purpose is to treat the root of the problem and not the symptoms as healing begins from within. As a former educator, I take my expertise working with individuals based on their individual needs. Currently, as a Middle School Counselor I seek to understand the overall being, awareness and who they are becoming. Together we will focus on the importance of past experiences on present issues in order to evoke awareness, healing and perseverance.

Life is a journey, and sometimes it leads to unexpected detours that can leave us feeling stuck and incapable of changing direction. Sometimes those times in life requires just a little help to get us back on the right path. We can trust God who gives His trustworthy Word as our compass, using it to lead us into deeper fellowship with Him. Jesus said, “I came that they have life, and have it abundantly” John 10:10. We were created to live lives of peace, joy, and fulfillment. If you are not experiencing the abundant life that Christ freely gives, it may be as a result of veering of the path that God has intended for you.

“Most of the problems in life are because of two reasons: We act without thinking or we keep thinking without acting.” (Zig, Ziglar) Sometimes we are hindered by the falsehood of any action taken could intensify the problem or lead to additional problems. We convince ourselves that it is safer to stay in our comfort zone by doing nothing at all. In true honesty, any action not taken can eventually lead to feelings of mental exhaustion, depression, anxiety, entrapment and loneliness.

Focusing on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, I assist children and adolescents in maneuvering the hiccups and stressors of life. I focus on the individualistic needs of each child while combining other aspects that could enhance their ability to overcome obstacles and be their best self. Such needs can be working with the child and their
family
, the child by themselves, or within a group setting of peers their age to actively work hands-on in adjusting cognitions and behaviors that are hindering their success. We offer group classes for children for these reasons as well as adult groups for support and management.

Growing up in a large, blended
family
, I learned firsthand how to deal with relationships of all kinds. I counseled veterans and civilians suffering from PTSD and childhood trauma. This led me to EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) which can yield remarkable results in processing and healing trauma responses. In addition to EMDR I also use Psychodynamic Therapy, CBT and DBT. There is a solution to end the cycle of suffering. We can be free of emotional pain caused by trauma and childhood experiences to live our best lives now.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
