Do you have school-age
children
who are having difficulties? I have two master's degrees: one in education and the other in counseling.
Sat. hrs. available. "I am suffering. Why should I work with you as my therapist?" Or, perhaps, "I am interested in personal growth and/or character development." Also, "I want to establish a satisfying long-term relationship." Or, "My
child
has ADHD." Or, "I have anxiety or depression." And, I counsel Traumatic Brain Injury clients. Many clients work with me over a number of years which speaks to the type of relationships I establish. I bring a quite presence to a safe place where you can authentically share of yourself. Many appreciate that I am cash pay, therefore no interference or intrusion of insurance providers.

For 20 years, I have helped
children
and their families cope with bad things that sometimes happen in a
child
's life. This includes abuse, divorce, school issues, loss of a loved one, or low self-esteem. I understand the ripple effects that these can have on family members and how hard it is to watch your
child
struggle. I use a neuroscience-informed approach to create a safe environment for clients to release the emotional pain in a way that makes the most effective use of your time.

Practicing from a
Child
-Centered Play Therapy perspective, I believe that
children
are strong and capable.
Your
child
is your whole world. When they're happy, you're happy, and when they're hurting, the pain you feel for them is excruciating. But by the time you find yourself perusing the internet for help, you are already exhausted, have experienced many sleepless nights, and are losing hope. I would love to help improve your family's hopefulness and regain its vitality. Counseling provides a safe, compassionate space that can help
children
develop more full and healthy connections, which translates into feeling competent, worthy of love, and thus more resilient to handle life's struggles.

I work with
children
and adolescents that are struggling with anxiety, and coping with hard things that have happened in the past. Everyone falls on hard times, and when they hit it is easy to feel like we are the only ones struggling, or the only one with kids who are struggling. Both of those things are not true. The therapy I provide shows kids and their parents that they are not defined by what happens to them, but are able to work through what has happened and grow stronger from it. Together we'll come up with a plan that best suits your
child
to cope and heal from what they have been struggling with.

I always like to say God gave me
children
early in my adult life because I was meant to help
children
in their own life struggles. I fully believe that God has plans for us even if we do not fully understand them! When our
children
face struggles that we cannot understand or feel equipped to help them with, we can feel lost and overwhelmed.
Children
and adolescents are often placed in situation and have experiences that are out of their control.

I thoroughly enjoy helping individuals, families, and
children
3 and up in their mental health journey.
Ever felt like all your words get stuck in your throat because you have a plethora of overwhelming emotions and pervasive thoughts, and now you don’t know where to begin? Maybe you feel like there isn’t any open room to express your thoughts and emotions freely with others, especially with loved ones. With the help of therapy, you can speak the unspeakable and harness the power to affect change. Whether your unspeakable is rooted in shame, regret, grief, loss, trauma, or general dissatisfaction with life, counseling can offer you a new framework for seeing and understanding your emotional pain clearly.

As adults, we naturally want to protect
children
from the pain of loss or the traumatic experiences of life challenges.
Children
’s response to worries and struggles may cause heartbreak for parents and caretakers to witness firsthand sadness, big emotions, and concerning behaviors.
Children
and teens should not face the challenges and pain alone. They need support, guidance, and a safe place to process struggles. As a result of psychotherapy, facing struggles and challenges can help kids build determination, courage, coping skills and confidence.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
