I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders (such as OCD , tic disorders, hair pulling /trichotillomania and skin picking /excoriation).
Through 20 years of practice I have found that people usually seek therapy because they are experiencing something that is too difficult to bear without additional help and support. Life can seem unjust when bad things happen to good people, or when best efforts are not leading to desired outcomes. These challenges are opportunities for renewal and growth. Especially during a time of crisis or transition, the ability to safely connect and openly share thoughts and feelings, while receiving genuine emotional support, clarifying insights, and effective tools for coping can be truly life changing. This is the gift of therapy.

My clients are people who are dealing with symptoms of anxiety, depression, and OCD , who may or may not have endured trauma in their past or present.
As your therapist, I will meet you where you are because YOU are the expert on your journey to compassionate mental health. My approach is holistic and person-centered; one that works collaboratively with individuals and families to establish lifestyle choices that support both their mind and body. When we are out of balance, our thought patterns can be immobilizing, which triggers self-doubt and indecision. I help my clients by working mindfully with their internal dialogues in an effort to engage their capacity for self-determination.

Neurotherapy, or neurofeedback, is an innovative therapy for individuals seeking non-invasive treatment. Neurofeedback works with the source of many struggles, the brain. If you are struggling with ADHD, anxiety, OCD , depression, PTSD, cognitive difficulties, or sleep difficulties, neurofeedback may help. Often, people try neurofeedback therapy after medications or other therapies have failed to alleviate their distressful symptoms.

Seems there's always another way to tone and nourish our bodies. Yet our minds - well, they don't often get the same dedicated attention. Our thoughts swirl. Our emotions wind into mash-ups of who-knows-what. And for anyone's been stuck in a cave, today's world offers an endless stream of fuel for anxiety and panic du jour. It's hard to keep up. So how do we sooth the angst, reset the stress level, and tone our minds so that even amid an unpredictable, stress-inducing world, we are steadier, calmer, more centered, and more resilient? And yes actually, we can be and feel ok even when it feels like everything around us is a bit crazy.

We use a variety of techniques that are tailored to meet the needs of our clients with a special interest in self esteem/self worth issues, codependency, NPD & unconscious programming. Some individuals are unaware of limiting thoughts, beliefs & memories and stay stuck. Trapped trauma and unconscious programming plays a major role in mental & physical health problems as well as interpersonal relationships. In addition to psychotherapy we offer a unique & transformational experience called Zerobody Dry Flotation to aid and accelerate the healing process and to re program unconscious programming (one's blueprint of self and life).

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
