You look around and think to yourself, what happened? Each day you feel pulled further and further away from the life you thought was yours. Your morning thoughts go something like this: please let my child have a good day at school; who is this person sitting across the table from me and what happened to the one I said "I do" to? how am I ever going to get through this day? It is so tough to maintain strength, hope, and individuality when your family is in distress, your
marriage
feels like a failure, your teen is unrecognizable, or you're just completely out of energy. I get it! I'm here! Together we can figure this out.

We all struggle with the ups and downs of life. My passion is working with children (ages 3 and older) and families to promote healthy and happy individuals and relationships. I hope to help my clients enhance their own individual strengths, better their relationships with others, and enjoy the most out of everyday interactions and experiences. Solution Focused and Attachment-Based therapy are the primary approaches I utilize in treating clients. As human beings, I believe we are wired to connect with others and that individual change and healing influences relational change and healing.

Sometimes new experiences, personal growth and increased awareness can shed light on how your old thoughts, feelings and emotions are no longer serving you well. Typical issues presented to me in therapy include family and relational conflict, low self-esteem, self-injurious behaviors in adolescents as well as adolescent issues, depression, anxiety,
marital
strain, and changes in school or work performance.
I believe that every client has the tools and knowledge necessary to improve their lives. This knowledge becomes hidden by the stress and responsibilities we face on a daily basis. My role as a therapist is to help you uncover those tools in order for you to live a more fulfilling life. If your family is facing a difficult challenge, if you need a different perspective on a situation, or if you are at a loss of what to do with your teen's behavior, I would be honored to help you throughout the process of positive change.

If you're struggling, a skilled counselor can help. I'm a psychologist in the Woodlands whose main focus is on couples therapy for couples in trouble and child counseling for parents worried about their child. I also provide counseling if you're suffering from depression, post-partum depression, infertility or a pregnancy loss. If you're looking for a couples therapist, you've probably tried to improve your relationship without success. You're frustrated and discouraged. I use one of the most effective methods of
marriage counseling
called, Emotion Focused Couples Therapy (EFT). EFT can help resolve conflict and deepen your bond.

Help for when Relationships Hurt! I bring Experience on the Cutting Edge. I'm a therapist with over 30 years of experience! If you're worried that would make me old-fashioned - you should know that I am the director of a
Marriage
& Family Therapy training program & always focus on up-to-date, "cutting edge" methods. The one word I would use to describe my approach is "collaborative." This means treatment individually tailored to you and your situation (no cookie-cutter approaches!). Because of that, I primarily offer "strengths-based" approaches that focus primarily on your strengths, not your weaknesses.

How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.
How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.
Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.
Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
