The challenges that find you researching therapists are to be embraced. Those challenges are sending you a powerful message that something about your life, your relationships or your child's behavior is no longer working. Change is already taking place within you, and HOPE is awakening. My clients tend to be high achieving women and children ages 5 to 10 with anxiety. I often work with healthcare and mental health professionals. Clients who come to me have a desire to improve their relationships, heal from burn out, to practice healthy boundaries, and to work through family of origin and/or attachment issues.

The program at this Symetria clinic goes beyond traditional therapy to treat everything hiding behind the drugs or alcohol - all while still living at home! Treatment here helps you rebalance your brain, create healthy thought patterns and heal underlying issues (like trauma, anxiety, depression or family conflict).
Don't settle for a generic drug and alcohol therapist. You deserve help that actually helps you feel happy again. (And, that's in-network with your insurance).

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with a BS in Psychology from Texas A&M University (Whoop!) and an MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from St.
We all struggle with the ups and downs of life. My passion is working with children (ages 3 and older) and families to promote healthy and happy individuals and relationships. I hope to help my clients enhance their own individual strengths, better their relationships with others, and enjoy the most out of everyday interactions and experiences. Solution Focused and Attachment-Based therapy are the primary approaches I utilize in treating clients. As human beings, I believe we are wired to connect with others and that individual change and healing influences relational change and healing.

Your relationship is worth fighting for, but it shouldn't be something that you fight over. Though finances, sex, and matters of spiritual faith can be common issues that people argue over, there are many more things that challenge relationships, and I've had the benefit and pleasure to help many people in diverse relational difficulties. You are not alone, quite literally every adult has faced difficulty within relationships. Whether there has been infidelity, loss of trust, abusive tendencies, lost connections, lack of relational congruency or cohesion, poor communication, family problems, commitment issues, or irresponsibility.

I use evidence-based treatment and a family focus.
Have worries about your child's development or social skills? Is your child having trouble focusing? Does he need more time on tests? Has she complained that reading is difficult? I use psychological testing to help parents move from confused & concerned to clear & confident without wasted time. My extensive training in testing from birth through adults gets you answers & a plan, FAST. The investment of a good evaluation up front cuts down on time spent guessing & "trying" solutions that don't get results. You get solid data about your child's strengths, weaknesses, & needs. There is no 'right' way through this. There is just 'through.' Families are under tremendous pressure, even more so during these times. Children & teens spent too long without their social support and are now trying to achieve a new normal. This fear and anxiety of the unknown is similar to those experienced by adults recently. I can help adults, teens, & children work through the fear, anxiety, stress and trauma and help you build strong, healthy, resilient individuals and families. I enjoy working with all ages and specialize in family conflict, anxiety/depression, trauma, PTSD, Veterans, First Responders, & child specialties.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
