You feel like an imposter. People think you have it all together, but they have no idea how much you struggle. Feeling exhausted and ashamed, your self-esteem sinks lower by the day. Your success feels fragile, and being overwhelmed plagues you. You feel disconnected and isolated from family and friends but have no clue how to repair those relationships.

These settings have given me the experience needed to work with children and adolescents that are experiencing depression, anxiety, low
self esteem
, and self-harm or suicidal ideation.
Does it feel like you or your child lack motivation or self confidence? Does it feel like you or your child are anxious almost all day? Does it feel like you and your child do not communicate? Feeling this way can impact how we feel about ourselves and how we navigate our daily life. Let's work together to overcome these feelings and change this internal dialogue. You should feel comfortable to share these experiences when and how you are ready, I believe the client is the expert in their own life and take this approach in therapy.

You want to appear more outgoing, productive and like you are “on top of things” but deep down you are struggling to cope with anxiety and low self-esteem. You’re someone who enjoys your alone time but still find yourself wanting to be active and feel "included". You want to feel less exhausted and find that too many things going on at once can leave you feeling frazzled. You may struggle with over analyzing a past conversation you had or maybe you feel self-critical often. You’re ready to start feeling some relief, hope and happiness again. Most of all, you’re ready to feel less anxious and depressed! I want to help you get there.

Eating disorders have the highest mortality of all psychiatric diagnoses. I'm a Certified Eating Disorders Specialist. You aren't sick because you want to be (see Neurobiology.) The change we need to live healthy can seem more difficult than the pain. The emptiness of escapism, whether through restriction, drugs, alcohol, food, etc. obscures your potential. If it's not dangerous, you don't have to run. When you practice avoidance, you also avoid experiences producing self-trust, self-confidence and self-esteem. If you want to practice bravery, I'm here. I teach skills and assign homework. I'm willing to work as hard as you are.

Choosing to seek outside support is not an easy step, but one that shows great courage and strength. We each carry our own experiences that are shaped by our families, our social and cultural identities, as well as our own internal values and goals. But let’s talk real for a second, being human in a perfectionist world is not an easy walk. Life experiences can bring challenges where we begin to feel disconnected from others, ourselves, and even from our experiences. I come from a perfectionistic background where my sense of grace was given to others, but not to myself. I understand the struggle of self-esteem issues, and depression.

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.`` - Khalil Gibran My ideal clients are willing to look at the somatic elements of who they are, become more mindful of their internal sensations and return to the present moment. They begin to understand that change can happen, that they can become unstuck, and find healing and growth within balancing thinking and somatic self.

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?
When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.
What are the signs of low self-esteem?
Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.
What causes low self-esteem?
Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.
How can therapy improve self-esteem?
Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
