After struggling with a traumatic event in my life I searched for a way to heal.
Do you feel overwhelmed and that you might never heal? Are you struggling with anxiety and depression? Do you think “My trauma isn’t as bad as …..”. while continuing to struggle? Do you feel that the heaviness of grief and loss will never lift? Taking a step towards healing by working with a counselor might be the right answer for you. My passion is meeting new clients, making sure we are a good fit, and then working together to find what is best way forward for your journey. I believe that the mind and body know how to heal itself and we will work towards unlocking the healing that is inside you.

I get that dealing with trauma, stress, and the impact of life's critical incidents can be tough.
If life's challenges are taking a toll on your mental well-being and relationships, know that help is available. If you get the feeling things aren't quite right or a shift from your usual, more positive self, and it is impacting your personal or professional relationships there is support. I specialize in helping people manage anxiety, infidelity, couple's issues, trauma, PTSD, and cumulative PTSD. Additionally, I have experience understanding and helping first responders as well as those who make decisions that impact the lives of others.

Anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and narcissistic abuse are areas where I specialize.
Ideal clients are people who realize they are struggling. They work up the courage to seek help even if it is scary or uncomfortable. People can have a wide range of issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, or trauma. The list is endless! Regardless of the issues, everyone in counseling deserves to be in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment while they work through whatever is keeping them from living their best life. These clients want to feel better, live better, and cultivate personal growth. The underlying hope when choosing to seek counseling is to progress beyond the pain and celebrate the ability to overcome.

I provide an eclectic approach to my practice, with an emphasis on cognitive based therapy and trauma informed care.
Therapy shouldn’t have to feel like a job interview. It is a space where you are able to discover strengths about yourself that you didn't think existed. I strive to provide a safe, open space for my clients to feel comfortable and as vulnerable as they can possibly be. I have experience in several types of issues, ranging from stress, anxiety, depression, to trauma as well. My goal is to help my clients find the power to understand the control they have over their own problems and empower them to find ways to resolve some of the issues that they face on a daily basis.

My experiences working with community mental health, private practice, trauma, crisis, and critical incidents have equipped me understand how difficult challenges can be for individuals and families.
You are seeking, that is what brought you here. Sometimes that may be a single event, a crisis, a trauma, or a series of events that have you weary. Life can bring us to a place where we need to do things differently and can't quite sort out what that looks like.

Much of my previous research focused on the long-term effects of trauma and how it can lead to physical symptoms or illnesses.
Hello, I'm Dennis Alvarez. Counseling should encourage and challenge individuals to meet their fullest potential by addressing their mental, emotional, and spiritual needs. When I work with clients, I like to help them understand how and why certain behaviors or patterns of behaviors occur. I work with individuals with a history of depression, anxiety, trauma, and substance abuse issues.

I help clients with family of origin issues, trauma, neglect, and abuse.
Have you been lacking the support you need, support without judgement or criticism, and the support you likely have not gotten in the past? I work with my clients using my whole heart as you are likely seeking help due to suffering from adverse childhood experiences, large or small, that continue to impact you today. Trauma rears itself in our daily lives. It becomes the template to which we experience the world. You no longer have to live that way. Let me walk with you.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
