Imagine standing at the edge of a foggy forest, unsure of which path to take. The path ahead is unclear, and each step feels heavy, uncertain. This is where many of my clients find themselves—at a crossroads, feeling overwhelmed by the weight of anxiety, depression, trauma, substance use, or a life transition. In our work together, I create a safe space to explore your challenges, using a holistic, trauma-informed, evidence-based approach to rebuild resilience and clarity. We'll build coping skills that empower you to move forward with confidence, healing, and purpose—so you can emerge from the fog and thrive.

When you're the person everyone else depends on, it can be difficult to admit when you're the one who needs support. Whether you serve as a first responder, veteran, or someone in another high-stress profession, you're used to staying strong, pushing through, and handling whatever comes your way. But carrying the weight of difficult experiences, chronic stress, or the demands of caring for others can eventually take a toll. Therapy offers a place where you don't have to stay in "survival mode." For so long, you've been the one showing up for others. Therapy is an opportunity to show up for yourself.

Consider opportunities for change through practices, new experiences and meaningful moments found in group therapy, workshops or individual therapy.

My specialty is intimacy disorders including sex/love addiction/avoidance as well as codependence caused by developmental trauma. Bad relationships can ruin your life & your happiness; however, relationships can be turned around. When addiction is present, the chances of real intimacy are small. Love addiction is a powerful & debilitating disorder that is very serious & potentially life threatening. Developmental trauma is a set up for self esteem & intimacy issues. If left untreated developmental trauma can lead to mental & physical illness (Pia Mellody, ACE study). You're not alone!

You feel deeply. You think deeply. But somewhere along the way, you were told that your depth was “too much.” That your softness wasn’t strong enough. That your emotions should be controlled and managed, instead of understood and celebrated. You’ve been aching to make changes, but you’re worried everything might go wrong and will prove you’ve never been good enough anyway. Let’s create a life you love. Check out my website (“Watch Me Work With Clients” tab) for video examples of me working with clients! I’d love to help you, too.

I often tell the true story that when I was in elementary school my classmates would take turns coming to me at recess to share with me the things they were struggling with. I went to our first family computer and made Mickey Mouse business cards that said Dr. Dan on them. I am (and always have been) deeply honored to hear people's struggles, disappointments, dreams, and hopes and to journey with anyone who is seeking a safe space to process whatever they are going through.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.

What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.

Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.

How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
