Life is a journey and counseling is here to help understand our journey as well as learn how to cope with daily struggles in a cathartic manner. I understand how difficult it can be to ask for help, as I battled with my own pride for many years. After taking the courageous leap, I have found enlightenment. I believe in equity for all. That means that I will meet you where you are in your journey and help you discover what you need to continue your adventure. Allow me to be your guide through the chaos to promote clarity, enhance awareness, and discover potential. I look forward to embarking on this journey together.

I am experienced in treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, insomnia, and addressing experiences of discrimination.
I am a firm believer that humans are doing the best with what they know at any given time. I'm also very aware that our contexts, both small-scale within our living situations, and large-scale within our society, shape how we feel and what we experience. My job is to help you better know yourself so you can live more aligned with your values and your goals while also creating space for the impact your contexts have on you. My therapeutic approach is dynamic and strength-based. I will help you find repetitive dynamics within your life and assist you in making the mental and behavioral changes you want to see.

Being my authentic self is important to me and I want you to be yourself with me. We often don’t get the chance to be completely open and honest in our society, so I hope we can create that safe place in our sessions. I believe that you are your own expert, and sometimes even experts need to explore their own ideas to come up with solutions to all sorts of problems or issues. I use aspects of cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, and solution-focused therapy depending on my patient’s needs.

River North Anxiety is a specialized mental health practice serving patients aged 18 to 65 with anxiety and anxiety-related disorders. Most of my clients are adults dealing with sleep, pain, or metabolic health concerns that have started affecting how they function physically and emotionally.
Living with disrupted sleep, chronic pain, or ongoing health concerns takes a real toll. These issues often persist not because of a lack of effort, but because of how they reinforce each other. If you have been dealing with any of this, please reach out. I would be glad to discuss whether this work is right for you.

I often work with individuals who suffer from various problems, such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, stress, or even adjustment to living with a chronic illness.
My many years working in sleep medicine and a medical setting, combined with my training and experience as a clinical psychologist, puts me in a unique position to help you explore how the physical, emotional, and thinking parts of you can create an imbalance inside. Furthermore, I can also help you to find harmony with each of these areas.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
