As a therapist, I gravitate toward mindfulness, attachment theory, CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention for
OCD
, and IFS-informed and trauma-informed care.
Hi there! My name is Luke and I am an LPC Associate in Texas supervised by Amber Pilkington, M.Psy., LPC-S. I became a therapist because I love people and cherish holding space for their experiences. I believe that the mind, body, and spirit are intimately connected and provide us with the answers we need to live a fully integrated life. My approach to counseling upholds each individual’s unique identity by meeting them where they are, guiding them to see their goodness, and empowering them to utilize their autonomy for healthy change.

I specialize in the treatment of depression and anxiety disorders, including
Obsessive
-Compulsive Disorders.
I provide individual and couples therapy to older adolescents and adults. My approach to therapy mainly draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have additional training in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). While I tend to draw from CBT, I incorporate other styles and techniques to tailor each session to meet the needs of each person I work with. I believe the most important and healing aspect of therapy is the relationship that is created between myself and the person sitting across from me.

Our experiences in life can present us with challenges, stress, depression, anxiety and emotional turmoil in the here and now. Everyone can benefit from emotional support to help navigate the difficulties of life, especially when our own coping and problem skills don't seem to manage what we are experiencing. Initiating therapy is the start of building our coping skills in navigating through the course of life and achieving our goals. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist is critical in a non-judgmental and safe setting. I want to help you achieve your goals and reach your full potential.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
