I have experience in Trauma focused-ACT, Trauma Informed-Care, trained in CBT, Mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing and Solution Focused Brief Therapy.
We live in a society that has made vulnerability seen as weakness, ironically, it is what allows us to be human and make connections. Do you feel a struggle in making connections? Do you struggle with overwhelming feelings of pain, anger, anxiety or depression, and feel like these are what define you? Do you feel like no one will ever understand, like you are detached from the world? Have you been through a traumatic experience, that robs you of freedom? Is motivation the issue, are you fatigued from attempts at change, but never having a guiding light?

I am EMDR certified, TF-CBT trained, and use other techniques like CBT, Solution Focused, and Mindfulness.
I enjoy taking more of a holistic approach and getting to the root causes. Everything we do in life, from the people with whom we surround ourselves to the foods we consume, effects our mental health. Things from our past continue to have a significant impact on us as long as it remains undealt with and tucked away, but life does not have to be this way.

A previous hospice social worker, I am now trained in EMDR, Pain Reprocessing, KAP, Mindfulness, CBT & energy psychology (ie EFT/"tapping").
If you are in pain & feel left out of life, I could be a good fit for you. If you watch everyone else wondering "what am I doing wrong?" "when will it be my turn?" Often we withdraw when we don't feel well, even when longing for connection. Sometimes we are coping w/a medical condition, in addition to trauma, chronic pain or fatigue. Often this is bundled w/depression, anxiety, panic & PTSD. In addition to your own stressors, maybe you also care for a loved one w/a disability or illness. When it's all too much, when our symptoms & stressors push us toward our window of tolerance or decrease feelings of self worth, I'm here for you.

My foundation is in cognitive behavior therapy (CBT) and mindfulness.
I value each client's uniqueness and believe therapy is a collaborative process. Each client is a person working through an issue that is impeding a goal. That goal may be managing depression, reducing anxiety, relieving stress, or some area within your life you feel is negatively affecting your wellness. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over ten years in mental health, counseling and therapy. I am also a Provisionally Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PLP).

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists

How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.

When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?

This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.

Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
