Counselors have had a lasting impact on me and my
family
in the past and this personal experience inspired my decision to shift careers and become a licensed counselor.
Whether it is past experiences or present circumstances that you are working through, it can be helpful to have someone walk with you on that journey. I seek to make a connection and create a relationship with clients that is built on trust, empathy, curiosity, and respect in a safe and judgement free environment. My hope is that through our time together you are able to gain further insight into who you are, gain an understanding into the nature of your difficulties, and together find ways to overcome your current struggles.

Treatment is tailored to each individual situation so the person, couple or
family
in treatment can enhance their skills to deal with life situations, achieve a better level of adaptation, modify conditions, and acquire greater realization of the strength and potential within them, thus achieving more adequate, satisfying, and productive functioning.
I specialize in helping individuals, couples and families deal with the difficulties and challenges life sometimes presents us with. These may include situations related to transitions in life, unexpected events, feelings of loneliness, depression, anxiety and stress, difficulties in communication, and conflict in relationships, among other issues. I view life as a journey -specifically, a learning journey- with all its ups and downs.

My finesse is assisting you out of the confusion in a way that is in the best interest of you & your
family
.
Resilience. Connection. Perspective. I believe in focusing on one's strengths and capabilities and assisting a person by building on those factors. With so many demands placed on our lives, relationships may sometimes suffer. While we make plans and schedule ourselves to accommodate life, at times we make assumptions based on past experience. Are you living the life you want to be living? Do you know who you are and what brings you joy? Are your relationships all you want them to be? If the answer is yes, congratulations. If it's no, then maybe I can help. Summer availability

I am an encouraging therapist who is passionate about helping others reach their goals and experience hope and healing. My therapy approach is rooted in the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I have found this approach very effective with a multitude of issues. CBT is strongly supported in the professional literature as having verifiable evidence of success. As a Christian, I like the emphasis CBT has on the importance of building truth into our lives and how important it is to speak truth to ourselves.

You want your children &
family
to thrive, and your marriage to remain strong.
Now Accepting Clients 13 years and older. No matter what you do, nothing has worked thus far. You still get frustrated by the same people and situations, and your relationships suffer as a result. You might even engage in self-sabotaging behaviors, and juggling all of it feels impossible. You know your parenting could be better, and you are not sure how or why you react in the ways you do. You may ask yourself “Why am I this way?” The answer often lies in early trauma. A chaotic upbringing, abuse, and not feeling seen as children can often result in emotions, thoughts, and behaviors that do not reflect our true selves.

I have worked in the field for more than 20 years and have an extensive amount of experience working with Domestic Violence,
Family
Dynamics, Anxiety, Depression, Addictions, Anger and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
We all need help. Whether it may be learning how to make healthy decisions, reducing anxiety, controlling impulses, learning to assertively communicate or to reduce depressive symptoms. Understanding ourselves, defining our wants and needs can be important in making life-changing choices. In therapy, the goal is to meet you where you are at in life and collaboratively move towards obtaining your goals. Many times we expect immediate results without having to make any internal changes; leaving us unfulfilled, sad and anxious. The changes begin within ourselves to see desired responses from others.

My professional background and training is rooted in
family
systems theory and psychodynamic psychotherapy.
I am a genuine listener who engages others by getting to know them, while exploring needs and goals. I believe that problem-solving begins with discovery of our inner strengths which can be used to foster healing and growth. As one begins to identify these resources and learns to use them, she/he is empowered to make changes and gain understanding about self and others previously thought impossible. While work in therapy can be difficult at times, it does not always have to be "serious business". Many people do not know how to have fun and learning this skill is always healing.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
