I am a family systems therapist who can help you discover your strengths and enable you to leverage what is going well in your life to bring about change. In therapy we will work on "re-framing" situations to give you a fresh perspective and discover healthier, more productive options. Vital parts of treatment are: learning how to problem solve, developing coping mechanisms that work for you, and honing clear communication skills.

I have 13 years’ experience working with adolescents, families, and individuals who are living with trauma, depression, anxiety, family issues, school-based concerns. My background in nursing and counseling enables me to take a holistic approach. I truly believe there is a mind-body connection. If our mind, our emotional well-being is unbalanced/unwell then we will not be functioning at our highest potential. Congratulations on taking the first step to achieving complete well-being. I hope that we can be on this journey together.

Overwhelmed? Trouble sleeping? Difficulties with daily tasks or decision making? Healing from loss? These situations can be very painful, and are common, especially given all the changes in our world the last two years. Unfortunately, many people are often hesitant to take the time or seek the support they need for themselves, which ends up impacting you as the individual and those around you. Together, we will find healing and understanding and you will find ways to manage your emotional pain, deal with everyday life issues as they come up; and to recognize and find meaning and purpose in your work, friendships and family .

As a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist (LMFT) my training is somewhat different from a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
*No evening or weekend appointments* Life can throw curve balls at us and when that happens it's helpful to have a trained professional who can help you process how to move forward. I have experience treating individuals, couples and families and significant experience dealing with cases of infidelity, divorce, anxiety and depression. Couples are a big focus for me but of course I also see individuals. I have a particular interest in clients dealing with anxiety, depression or have past trauma. I also do therapy with local celebrities who have unique concerns about privacy.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
