Life is difficult. There are so many things happening in the world right now. It can be hard to find someone who is free of burdens and turmoil in their own lives to talk to. Then there are those more specific things we may be dealing with that we cannot share with family or friends just yet. Counseling is a safe place to process and heal from most situations you may be facing right now whether it's relationship problems, job stress, time management or something more traumatic like domestic violence or a child who has experienced abuse. This is an opportunity to figure out how to start the healing process.

I have experience working with adolescents, young adults, and adults struggling with college, life transitions, depression, stress management, grief, heartbreak, career changes, self-esteem, anxiety, women's issues, relationship issues, parenting, and healing from trauma.
My passion in therapy stems from believing that everyone has a unique life story to bring into counseling and they need a place to safely explore that story. I am an empathic and understanding counselor who works motivationally with my clients to give them the opportunity to develop greater awareness of this story and how they understand themselves and their challenges. My desire is to collaboratively work with my clients using various methods and expressive techniques so that through therapy clients reconnect with themselves, their strengths, and develop new ways of being and connecting with others.

I specialize in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples and families.
My ideal clients are those who show a willingness to have me walk beside them and hold their pain as they seek clarification on the emotions that drive their distress. By seeking treatment to address relationship issues, they discover that other aspects of their experience are influenced by their powerful need to connect with their significant others. I am best suited to treating marital distress and disconnection between teens and their parents. I understand the unique importance of familial relationships and the significant relief that comes when these relationships are repaired.

At one point or another all of us go through transition . Change inevitable and can be difficult to handle. Dealing with the 'new normal' does not always come with ease, but rest assured , where there is a will there is a way. Using a solution focused approach, during our initial session, we may brainstorm on possible strategies and tools that you may already possess, whether change entails raising a challenging adolescent, relationship issues to a terminal illness, we have a choice to be part of our solution or dwell on something we have little to no control over. In office sessions are available in San Antonio.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
