Life is difficult. There are so many things happening in the world right now. It can be hard to find someone who is free of burdens and turmoil in their own lives to talk to. Then there are those more specific things we may be dealing with that we cannot share with family or friends just yet. Counseling is a safe place to process and heal from most situations you may be facing right now whether it's
relationship
problems, job stress, time management or something more traumatic like domestic violence or a child who has experienced abuse. This is an opportunity to figure out how to start the healing process.

I have found find that greeting client with a warm smile, empathy, and unconditional positive regard creates a trusting
relationship
.
Sometimes we can feel like we are settling for an unfulfilling life, yearning for freedom from the emotional pain that plagues us. We may feel that we are drowning in conflict, depression, and loneliness, as well as feeling scared and overwhelmed. Our wants and needs sound so simple, yet no matter what we do and what we try to change, it turns out to seem like it is just not that simple after all. We crave connection and intimacy, but sometimes our anxiety, sadness, fear, anger and relationships seem like obstacles to our goals, and the changes we want to make in our lives. Talking helps. There is hope, you are not alone.

I take great care to create a space of safety and trust, encouraging an authentic
relationship

Body Aches? Migraines? Tired? Stressed? Restless? The mind body connection manifests when we are dysregulated. We all experience interruptions and barriers - separation, loss, trauma, life transitions, to name a few. Let me help you find more peace in your life by exploring life's challenges. I specialize in ETT, a therapy that treats the body mind connection. Creating connection or rebuilding a lost connection is fundamental before we can move on, learn, teach, or heal. Trust, compassion, respect, and non-judgement are the cornerstones of my counseling approach as talking about feelings can be tough.

relationship
is key to facilitating change.
Whether you need short term, solution-focused assistance or would benefit from longer term therapy and counseling, I believe our work together should be person-centered and structured in a manner that fits your unique goals and needs.

My main areas of practice are Depression, Anxiety, Sleep issues (CBT-i), Life Coaching, Stress/Stress-related disorders, Biofeedback and
Couples
Communication.
I have a strong belief in each person's ability to "heal" and help themselves with the assistance and empowerment of counseling. I provide a safe, professional, and understanding environment for you to explore your situation and make the necessary changes to improve your quality of life. I have an eclectic style with the majority of my training being in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). This style allows me the flexibility of approaching each person in the way that fits them best. I love seeing the improvement clients can make, especially using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I want you to feel unique; I appreciate the opportunity to listen and
partner
with you in your decision to share your story and choose yourself.
Sharing your story and asking for help can feel scary, and that's okay! You may feel overwhelmed, discouraged, confused, or at a loss to connect to your authentic self. I am here to listen. Has self-blame made it challenging to forgive yourself? Or has a difficulty finding motivation left you at a loss of control over your environment? Perhaps a life transition has you overwhelmed, anxious, or exhausted. Maybe fear and anxiety have held you back, making you feel stuck. If so, I am here to help and provide a safe and non-judgmental space for you to heal.

I am a body-centered psychotherapist who helps people experience practical change. I specialize in adults, teens, men, women, & those in transitions. Rather than just talking about things or giving you better coping strategies, we co-create a safe space to slow down & become curious about your whole current experience. Together we notice thoughts, images, feelings, sensations, & movements as they happen. By wondering in this way, we support you developing a new
relationship
with your Self & what drives your patterns. Clarity, choice, & courage surface as you experience more of You & all that you really are.

I have over 25 years counseling experience as both a mental health and substance abuse counselor. Some of those years were as a Psychiatric Medic in the military, including the Gulf War. I am committed to counseling those who are struggling with life adversities, trials and tribulations who are suffering from mood disorders, anxiety, grief, stress, substance abuse,
relationship
issues, and issues concerning parents of LGBT children, as well as other life stressors or disorders. I counsel mostly adults from ages 18 to 64. I use the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary approach to conduct therapy.

I see people who have been unable to live their potential because they continue to carry the pain of their past and/or live in unhealthy relationships. If that sounds like you I can help you process your trauma, get healthy and rewrite your future to more fully live your potential. Therapy with me is based on building a strong
relationship
where I support you through change with compassion, tough feedback, science and some humor (we ALL need that in life). I see working adults (i.e. PhDs, managers, working parents, etc). I incorporate spirituality principles when it fits with my client's cultural viewpoint.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
