I help adults navigate the emotional and practical challenges that come with serious illness, life transitions, and mood concerns such as depression and anxiety, with a special focus on individuals impacted by cancer.
Welcome, my name is Adrianna and I am glad you’re here. Are you struggling with depression, anxiety, or the stress of life’s transitions? Are you managing serious illness and wondering how to cope, find meaning, or feel like yourself again? You don’t have to navigate this alone. I believe that when life brings disruption, whether through illness, transition, or just the weight of the day-to-day, we all deserve a compassionate, collaborative ally in making sense of where we are and where we want to go. Together, we can find healing and create change.

The decision to seek therapy is difficult and personal. Not knowing all the answers to your life questions is natural. Often, people choose therapy during times of stress, discomfort, chaos, and emotional pain. It may also be when you are ready for changes or growth to happen in your life. I believe that within every individual lies the ability to overcome, learn, and preserver through the concerns that brought them to therapy.

I'm deeply committed to helping people break free from the grip of trauma and reclaim their lives. For over 25 years, I’ve worked alongside survivors of childhood sexual abuse, domestic violence, rape, terrorism, political violence, and other profound challenges—supporting each individual as they take courageous steps toward healing. My professional journey has taken me through nonprofit organizations, military communities, addiction and trauma recovery centers, and refugee support programs. Along the way, I’ve cultivated a rich and compassionate practice rooted in evidence-based care, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.

Finding a therapist who “gets it” is important. I know your frustration with common expressions like, "just relax,” “at least you have” or “have you thought of…” statements. I am here to offer you the safe space that is often not available in society, the support that someone who has gone through can provide and the tools to ease the pain you are experiencing. If you are suffering from cancer, reproductive and/or family-building barriers, pre during pregnancy and postpartum mental health issues, and-or have experienced trauma, grief-loss, anxiety & depression, I am your person. Are you carrying the weight of trauma, grief, or a mental health diagnosis that has made it hard to feel stable, safe, or like yourself? Whether you're an adult navigating PTSD and emotional upheaval or a parent watching your child struggle with behavioral challenges, the path to clarity can feel impossibly far away. You don't have to find your way there alone — and with the right support, it is closer than you think.

Something in you knows there is more — more to who you are, more to how life can feel. Maybe anxiety or overwhelm has settled in, quietly reshaping your days. Maybe old wounds or unprocessed trauma are driving patterns you cannot seem to break. Perhaps your relationships feel stuck in the same cycles of conflict, loss, or miscommunication. You are not broken. You are someone with a history, a culture, a story — and an innate wholeness waiting to be recognized. At Nichols Counseling, I begin with an in-depth interview to truly understand what you are facing. Together, we create a plan and pay close attention as old patterns begin to

Something has shifted, and you can't quite name it. You're doing everything right — the treatments, the appointments, the showing up and yet you feel more alone than ever. Whether you're deep in fertility treatment, navigating a complicated pregnancy, or lost somewhere in early parenthood, your emotional experience deserves as much attention as everything else. I work with women and couples — including same-sex female couples building their families — who are ready to stop surviving and start feeling like themselves again. Together, we'll process the grief, deal with shame, and help you reconnect with yourself and your relationship.

Cancer Therapists
How does cancer affect mental health?
A cancer diagnosis is a major life event that can significantly influence the mental health of any individual. Being diagnosed with cancer often introduces a sense of uncertainty about the future, which can cause clients to experience symptoms of anxiety, depression, and significant distress. Many cancer patients may also worry about the toll that their diagnosis may have on their family, their physical health, their job, and their financial situation. The compounding of such stressors can also decrease mental health in clients and may lead to additional symptoms that can influence mental health, such as sleeping difficulties or social withdrawal.

What is the best psychological therapy for cancer patients?
The best type of psychological therapy for cancer patients is highly dependent on the needs of the individual. The therapy type that a client benefits from may also depend on what stage of the cancer journey they are in. Recently diagnosed cancer patients, for instance, may benefit from therapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which can help clients develop skills to manage the emotional distress that comes with a cancer diagnosis. Alternatively, cancer patients further along in their journey may benefit from therapies like Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) or other forms of mindfulness therapy to help manage symptoms or physical pain associated with treatment. Clients may also consider group therapy, which offers cancer patients an opportunity to receive support from other individuals dealing with a cancer diagnosis.

Are there any risks or drawbacks in going to therapy while dealing with cancer?
Although attending therapy while dealing with a cancer diagnosis can be helpful, one major concern for cancer patients can be the financial cost of seeking therapy. Many therapists are out-of-network, meaning they do not accept insurance, and thus clients are expected to pay the entirety of the session fee. Since many cancer patients may be out of work as a result of their diagnosis or cancer treatment regimen, the costs of therapy sessions can be substantial. Luckily, many cancer centers and local clinics may offer free or substantially reduced-cost counseling services to cancer patients and their families. In addition, cancer patients may be eligible for grants or other forms of funding from local agencies and nonprofits to seek therapy for their cancer diagnosis. Such opportunities can be very helpful for cancer patients, as they allow clients to obtain the benefits of therapy without the financial strain.

How long does cancer therapy typically last?
The length of cancer therapy depends on the needs of each client. In some cases, cancer patients may only require therapeutic support during the period following their initial diagnosis—to help manage the uncertainty and shock of a cancer diagnosis. In other cases, clients may choose to receive therapy throughout their treatment, and even following, their cancer journey. Pursuing therapy for a longer period of time can help clients develop a deeper relationship with their therapist and provide opportunity to process the challenges presented by cancer treatment, such as physical pain, and challenges associated with cancer survivorship, such as ongoing identity concerns, physical limitations, or relationship challenges.
