I am fluent in American Sign Language and provide psychological services to persons who are Deaf.
I am here to help you with common concerns, such as depression, anxiety, stress, relationship matters, and coping with grief or trauma. I can also serve as a sounding board if you are seeking new directions or sorting through spirituality issues. You may be someone who can benefit from counseling even in situations not covered by health insurance. You may simply need to take some time away from the rest of your busy life, with someone who listens well and who is not directly involved---to sort through things, get feedback from a different perspective, obtain ideas, and receive support to work on changes for a better quality of life.

Our gathered thoughts about any situation play a critical role.
Our attitude and perception over an extended period of time determines overall state of mind, that in turn affects our outlook on life. Unresolved issues, focusing on our down falls, over thinking about past events, determines our present life situation, our coping mechanisms, our choices and relationships.

Finding a therapist can be hard, especially when you are navigating through your life journey. It can become even more isolating when you are in between the Deaf and hearing worlds. As the only Deaf member in a family moving to the United States, I went on a long journey through self-discovery. Through firsthand experience, I faced challenges with communication and isolation while discovering my own identity as a Deaf person. This is how I learned to become a strong advocate for minorities.

Our Practice It is our belief and experience that you will get more out of your life if you are willing to change. Change is spurred by a feeling that something just isn't quite right, that something could be better, that there's an issue you want to resolve. Therapy is an important step in discovering the world around you and finding your place in it. Our focus is to help individuals heal, energize, and become aware of their inner strengths. We achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan.

My professional career began as a certified American Sign Language Interpreter in 2001 and quickly progressed into earning a Graduate degree in Social Work at the University of Texas at Austin.
My training provided the experience needed to work in a community mental health clinic, providing high-quality mental health care to residents in Austin, TX, for 6 years. My interests in whole health led me to San Antonio to work with chronic illness, transplant, and geriatric care for roughly 10 years.

Are you a parent that feels that they are at the end of their rope? Do you feel isolated from others and can not find any help with the way your child is acting? You know your kids have some problems socially and possibly mentally… but you can not understand what they need or want in life? I can help. I have had the opportunity to help children and parents with their behavior, learning disabilities, and autistic disabilities. I understand that each child is unique, and somethings just set them off. You think there is no reason why, but they lash out, have tantrums, and cannot tell you their emotions and feelings.

You change the world when you change your mind! This lyric from the musical Kinky Boots has always resonated with me and influences how I approach my practice. My goal is to examine and explore areas of my client's lives where they feel stuck, unfulfilled, dissatisfied, or simply going through the motions, and to help foster real change. We are often our own biggest barriers to our goals because of destructive, limiting thought patterns. Let's dig deep together and find meaning, understanding, insight, joy and perhaps some humor as well. Let's change your world!

When you begin to recognize that your enjoyment of your child seems to be decreasing while feelings of being stuck, stressed, or overwhelmed are increasing, early childhood mental health services can be an effective tool to get things back on track. Healthy parent/child relationships reflect secure attachment, responsive attunement, and mutual enjoyment. But many things can interrupt that process, even typical things like the birth of a sibling or starting school. These experiences can contribute to challenging behaviors in children that are difficult to handle. Therapy can help to restore connection and understanding.

For over 38 years, I've created collaborative conversations with clients that generate new possibilities for change. I use a postmodern approach and strive to understand how clients make meaning of themselves, others, and the world around them. I tend to be active in those conversations - not passive - and I am respectful and goal-oriented. I also enjoy writing, providing consultation to other professionals, and speaking to audiences about love, dating, and relationships.
