I have worked in the field for more than 20 years and have an extensive amount of experience working with Domestic Violence, Family Dynamics, Anxiety, Depression, Addictions, Anger and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
We all need help. Whether it may be learning how to make healthy decisions, reducing anxiety, controlling impulses, learning to assertively communicate or to reduce depressive symptoms. Understanding ourselves, defining our wants and needs can be important in making life-changing choices. In therapy, the goal is to meet you where you are at in life and collaboratively move towards obtaining your goals. Many times we expect immediate results without having to make any internal changes; leaving us unfulfilled, sad and anxious. The changes begin within ourselves to see desired responses from others.

I work with individuals, couples, families, children, and adolescents, utilizing anger management, Cognitive Behavioral, and REBT theories in my practice and tailoring my approach to meet client-specific needs.
Feeling stuck, hopeless, or confused? Need a change, but not sure what it would be? Sometimes life throws challenges that are too overwhelming to handle alone. Whether you are having trouble accepting or believing in yourself, fighting depression or anxiety, managing anger, or dealing with relationship problems; psychotherapy can be an extremely helpful process to facilitate personal growth and insight.

I have hope when working with people who are going through intense emotion such as of anger, anxiety, or depression. I'm optimistic when working with folks who experience this because I believe in strengths-based counseling, and I've witnessed many people grow their strength to be able to process those emotions. Though the emotion difficulties can be similar across people I work with, the reasons each person feels this way are unique, and I want to hear your story.

I think the ideal client is one who would enjoy working with me and who shares the same values, beliefs, and goals, who would feel comfortable working with me, and who would benefit from my services. Some of their issues could be one of many, for example, they have anxiety and anger that's taken over in every area of their life. They need to have a vision for freedom that keeps them out of bondage. To have a safe place to express their feelings. This involves having understanding, empathy, and support of one another. They want someone who can enhance their potential and have a healthy life, with less anxiety. Nothing is impossible.

I specialize in treating infidelity, post-infidelity stress, trauma, complex PTSD, PTSD, mood disorders, emotion dysregulation, borderline personality disorder, anger issues, lack of assertiveness, family dysfunction, anxiety, faith-based issues, marital sex-based issues, substance use, sex abuse, stress, domestic violence, etc.
I truly believe that while you may come in broken, by faith, you can leave healed! I approach therapy in a collaborative manner with my clients. To effectively collaborate, I have a "no walking on eggshells" policy in our therapeutic space. Hold on, Faith! What does a “no walking on eggshells” policy mean? This policy empowers my clients to present what they may think are the “icky” parts of themselves without fear of being unrighteously judged in therapy. I will work to earn your trust so have faith in me, yourself, and the process as part of your healing journey.

I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families and conduct groups in the following areas: Teen Issues, Peer Pressure, Self-Esteem, Parent/Child or Partner Relationship Problems, Non-Suicidal Self-Harm Behavior, Anxiety Disorders, Anger and Stress Management, Marriage/Family Therapy and Career Issues.
I assist individuals in finding healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthening their relationships with one another to discover the strength they possess. I use a multicultural/sociocultural lens while practicing solution-focused therapy when discussing issues with clients dealing with a range of difficulties. Currently serving as a Lieutenant in the Army with 16 years of military experience, I understand that no single approach suits every individual. So I eagerly train in various modalities, from traditional counseling and systems theories to postmodern theories.

My professional experiences have prepared me to counsel adults, couples, & teens focusing on issues including but not limited to anxiety, anger, attachment, boundaries, childhood trauma, codependency, depression, divorce, interpersonal relationship building, life adjustment, abuse and relationships.
I am aware that no single approach is the right one for every individual, and so I have been educated and trained on a number of modalities.

I work with adult men and women with problems such as anxiety and depression, substance use, marital conflict and anger-control disorders.
I am accepting new clients, though I am semi-retired. My days in the office are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. With 49 years of experience, I help people rally their strengths to overcome problems in living which have diminished their success and happiness. A practical, results-oriented psychologist, I believe that when people feel safe and free from criticism they are most able to see new solutions to their difficulties and to try new behaviors. I believe a counseling relationship is most effective when it includes empathy, humor, frank and straight-forward discussion and, occasionally, no-nonsense confrontation.

Anger Management Therapists

How long does therapy take for anger management?

Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?

Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?

Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
