I specialize in working with codependent women and men. Codependency is not always related to addiction, it is often referred to as a self-love deficit disorder because most codependent clients have a difficult time identifying and focusing on their own needs. They often spend a lifetime being people-pleasers, but eventually feel anger and resentment for neglecting themselves and not receiving the appreciation/love they desire from others. Breaking free from codependency requires individuals to step away from their denial, to honor themselves, and to set boundaries. Then they can love and nurture others in a healthy manner.

The situations in the Hill Country - Hunt to Center Point and beyond, have been traumatic for us all. As a resident of Kerrville and husband of a former EMT who was at ground 0 for the 1987 flood, I understand that trauma. The ERT volunteers have been walking by our house daily headed back toward flat rock damn. I see the exhaustion, emotional and physical, that many have and am in admiration of. If you were effected by the catastrophic event and in need of someone to talk with, please do not hesitate to contact me. I have worked with combat veterans and law enforcement personnel and appreciate the experiences they have had.

Each of us has the ability to impact the world in a unique and powerful way and we are all born with the desire to deeply connect with others. Struggles with anxiety, depression, insecurity, burnout and stress can discourage us and keep us from realizing our full potential. Counseling gives you the opportunity to feel seen, heard, understood as well as challenged. It is through therapy that we come to understand ourselves more fully allowing personal growth, self esteem and possibly true satisfaction with the life we are given.

I work to keep the focus of sessions on the most important aspect of counseling, you and your goals! Ideally, sessions feel more like a natural conversation than a rigid, diagnostic assessment. Many of my clients enjoy counseling that is warm, collaborative, and flexible. Goals are reached by understanding and applying your genuine self, not by changing you to fit external, subjective molds. Being genuine, positive, and striving for mutual empathy are the pillars of my counseling space. If you’re looking for counseling that is warm, client-driven, and grounded in genuine connection, I would love to work with you to reach your goals!

I have been successful in the past with all manner of clients through many different settings – male, female, transgender, heterosexual, LGBTQ+, in inpatient, outpatient, technician, assessment, or even consulting settings. I also really enjoy working with teens and adolescents, since early brain-based interventions help everyone succeed even more in their lifetime. I find that my personality and style seem to fit best with clients who feel they are trapped in a negative routine, have no one with which to talk, or no way out of the situation from which they suffer.

There are so many surprises and experiences in the world to shape and grow us, some of which can be life-changing or hard to move past. It is easy to become voiceless, bottle things up, or notice that you completely have changed yourself to merely get by. Normalcy is often what everyone wants, but yet, to achieve it can be a constant battle with unending emotions. I have an innate drive and passion for supporting others and helping them reach their full potential as they navigate through transitions, adolescence, and other milestones in life, regardless of age group.

I work with kids, adolescents, and adults, leading them to their "A-ha" moments. I make difficult concepts simple using humor, story-telling & analogies. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to address the thoughts, feelings, beliefs and actions which may be obstacles to getting where you would like to be. I also rely heavily on Positive Psychology, which uses a strength-based approach (rather than a focus on problems). When working with traumatic events, I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
