Her clientele includes adults, couples, and adolescents.
We all have an innate goodness, natural spontaneity and potential. We tend to disconnect from it in response to painful experiences. It is a natural, even genetic program, to want happiness and joy in life. The frantic attempt to numb or avoid pain, results in denial of joy and natural spontaneity. My commitment as a therapist is facilitation of healing and transformation towards joy and connection. I use a Holistic approach, seek authenticity, and believe that each person's uniqueness can bring inner peace, extend to family, and enhance relationships. The happiness we generate extends to others and then returns.

I have experience with kids, adolescents, and adults.
Hello, my name is Lindsey, and I believe in meeting people where they are and working together with clients to find the right approach for them; the same therapeutic approach does not work for everyone. The thought of counseling can sometimes feel overwheIming. Therefore, I strive to help the client feel comfortable, supported, encouraged, and safe during session. I believe in taking a deeper look into what the underlying reason is for counseling, and I will be with you every step of the way. I want my clients to feel empowered and at peace by the time they are done with counseling. I look forward to meeting you!

You can expect from Shannyn that your “entire self” is welcomed into a space and she will work somatically with what you bring to unpack, patterns to ease out of and the wounded places to be respected, handled with care, and skillful clinical attention and presence provided. Shannyn works from a vast framework incorporating traditional clinical practices as well as somatic experiencing, mindfulness and intersectional/social justice models. Addressing the impact of oppression a person experiences throughout life is also central to healing. It is in the mind AND body that dis.ease occurs and takes hold.

Embracing Change, Cultivating Growth: Viktor E. Frankl famously remarked, "When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves." This quote echoes the essence of my journey into mental health therapy—a path that serendipitously unfolded before me. I'm thrilled you've found your way here! My own journey to becoming a mental health therapist was far from straightforward, but it consistently drew me back to this profound calling. We all want a harmonious and peaceful connection with our love ones. Sometimes we find ourselves at an impasse with our partners, children, friends, or co-workers. These impasses act as barriers that keep our relationships from growing or moving forward. Counseling /therapy gives a person the opportunity to see a "barrier" from a different perspective while acquiring new skills to move through the barrier or eliminating the barrier it self. Many times our underline intentions are good ones but our solutions to a problem may become barriers themselves. We may just need a different perspective or create a new way of behaving.

Do you find yourself reliving unpleasant memories from your past? These could be situations of childhood abuse/neglect, the horrors of war, or single traumatic events (such as car accidents, assaults, or any situations in which your life or the life of a loved one was threatened). If this is the case, you might have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is common in civilian and military populations. THE GOOD NEWS IS THERE IS A SOLUTION. There is a powerful therapy called EMDR which has proven to be effective with not only PTSD, but also many other mental health disorders, because more often than not, trauma is the core issue.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
