Sometimes life feels like it gets so big that we feel that getting a solid grip on it is impossible. I work with the individual to help them see that the problem is not as big as it may seem. We work together, by using their tools and strengths, to break it down to a manageable size. This allows the client to create a better way of coping with the issues.

I specialize in cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness strategies to overcome trauma, depression, anxiety,
addiction
, and relationship problems.
Life is a constant process of change-and sometimes that change can seem so overwhelming that we may feel too stuck to move. I work with individuals who recognize that growth is needed; however, the fear of change can make us compare ourselves to others, silence us from saying what our heart needs to say, stop us from growing, and imprison us with the "what ifs". My job is to help you find your inner strength and voice to grow, break unhealthy habits, reach goals, and recover from the pain of your past.

It's not easy to ask for help. Couples especially struggle to agree on when or if they want to attend counseling to work on their relationship. Seeking counseling is a demonstration of your commitment and dedication to your relationship and your own personal growth. Whether you're looking for a relationship, healing from a relationship, or are in a relationship you want to strengthen or repair, you're in the right place.

I have enthusiastically worked with individuals experiencing a variety of life struggles and mental health challenges such as domestic violence, grief and loss,
addiction
, depression, and anxiety throughout my career. I also have experience working with couples struggling with communication difficulties, infidelity, and emotional distance. Early on I chose to focus on trauma when I noticed both the prevalence of traumatic experiences in the lives of my clients, and the profound effects of untreated trauma. I am certified in EMDR to promote healing and and help clients build lives full of authenticity, purpose, and meaning.

If you or someone you love are having problems related to alcohol or drug use, there is hope and a way out. It is most useful to meet with someone who truly understands
addiction
and can provide a true assessment. I will work with you, your family and any other healthcare providers to develop a plan of action based on your needs. Often times the road to recovery starts with meeting someone who listens to understand, meets you with genuine care and concern and can provide useful recommendations. Chemical dependency is a primary illness not a secondary mental health issue; trust a counselor who entered this specialty field.

Sometimes we can feel like we are settling for an unfulfilling life, yearning for freedom from the emotional pain that plagues us. We may feel that we are drowning in conflict, depression, and loneliness, as well as feeling scared and overwhelmed. Our wants and needs sound so simple, yet no matter what we do and what we try to change, it turns out to seem like it is just not that simple after all. We crave connection and intimacy, but sometimes our anxiety, sadness, fear, anger and relationships seem like obstacles to our goals, and the changes we want to make in our lives. Talking helps. There is hope, you are not alone.

I work with adults and adolescents, emphasis on helping individuals and families with relationship issues, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, and
substance
dependency.
Life can be a full-contact sport. Your heart can get trampled. And your mind forgets it is your servant....and becomes the master of worry. Frustration engulfs your efforts to negotiate life and fear sets up permanent residency. I find that's when people tolerate a lot...when they get stuck. Stuck in life.
I have a Ph.D. in Counseling, licensed in the State of Texas as well as Nationally. I am a researcher in Emotional Intelligence and have taught in the counseling graduate programs at The University of Texas at San Antonio and St. Mary's University.

I work with couples, families, and individuals (teens, kids, and adults). Do you want to experience things like growth, change, and healing? Are you experiencing grief, trauma (PTSD),
addiction
, anxiety, depression, or psychosis? Do you take medication, but it feels like something is missing or off? Maybe it’s something else. I help by treating the SOURCE of what you are facing, and I help with the day-to-day and the past of how to deal with the source, so you can be your best self. The source is a ‘root cause’ or a ‘seed’ of how it started.

substance
abuse, relationship issues, and issues concerning parents of LGBT children, as well as other life stressors or disorders. I counsel mostly adults from ages 18 to 64. I use the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a primary approach to conduct therapy.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.
How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.
How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.
How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason, “interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
