Therapy with me is designed to address the underlying issues that impact our lives. The world has become increasingly polarized and most people seem lost in the middle. I have over 10 years of experience providing mental health care to a wide variety of populations, from children to adults. I use an array of different psychotherapy approaches, specific techniques, and interventions, from modalities like cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, solution focused therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing. I also utilize the corrective, healing power of the interpersonal process in psychotherapy. I enjoy getting to know my clients and finding a style and approach that works best for their needs during our time together in the therapeutic relationship.

If you are hurting, angry, sad, frustrated, or life just isn't turning out as planned, you probably want it to change as soon as possible. My approach helps you build on your strengths and teach you skills to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. I want you to be able to have the peace in your life that is missing. You probably already have the solution in you. I help you discover that solution and become strong enough to follow it, through our discussions, teaching you new skills, and having you practice/develop the new skills between sessions.

I am a Licensed Psychologist and Licensed Specialist in School Psychology. Authenticity and agency are at the core of my practice. I work collaborative to help my clients begin their journey to becoming the best version of themselves. Each of us has within us an ability to define what gives us purpose and meaning in our lives. There is a powerful therapy called EMDR which has proven to be effective with not only PTSD, but also many other mental health disorders, because more often than not, trauma is the core issue.

As your psychologist, we will first spend time understanding each other, the situation, and then devise a plan of action to help you accomplish your goals. Then, we will work to develop & hone a set of strategies & skills, based on scientific research, that will help you to create the life that you want. I first became aware of my interest in Therapy shortly before Graduating from the University of Minnesota and obtaining a Second Bachelor’s Degree in Social Welfare. (Social Work Courses without the actual “Work”) I also had an interest in Physical Therapy and pursued this as an Enlisted Member of the Navy Hospital Corps where I succeeded in becoming a Physical Therapy/Occupational Therapy Technician. After practicing as a Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant in Texas for a few years, I utilized my GI Bill to pursue a Masters in Social Work from Our Lady of the Lake University of San Antonio.

Trauma, abuse, self esteem issues, substance use, part of a military family, tired of fighting anxiety or burned our from trauma. I have lived through all of that. They want relief from fighting internal battles, they want to be able to feel without hurting, they want to feel like themselves but may not even know their own identity outside of the chaos.

My ideal clients are adults and adolescents struggling with depression, grief, anxiety, and/or anger issues. I am looking forward to working with clients who are sincerely motivated to discover coping and self-care skills as well as how a Christian perspective can help the clients overcome real-life issues inhibiting their progress moving forward. I am a big believer in taking a proactive approach and addressing issues which may arise throughout a person’s life. I've worked in the mental health field for over 23 years, serving in both the military and civilian settings. I specialize in treating unresolved trauma issues, as well as depression, stress and anxiety. Traumatic issues include childhood abuse (physical, sexual, emotional abuse and neglect), sexual assault (including military), crime/theft, car accidents, grief/loss, combat, first responders/medical professionals, veterans (including moral injury) and poor leadership. My experience has taught me that most of the time depression and anxiety are unresolved emotional wounds that haven't been fully addressed.
