When life brings us challenges that are hard to understand, we lose sight of the power we hold within. The challenge becomes our focus and it consumes us. Counseling is a process that can help us re-focus on what is most important: the power of the individual. Each of us holds the tools we need in order to be the best versions of ourselves. I embrace the opportunity to explore and hone your tools with you. Together, I believe we can discover ways to combine your strengths and your tools to overcome any challenge you face.

You've always been the strong one; but, right now you don’t feel so strong. You’d like to let your guard down for a second and catch your breath. But you don’t think you can. It would be better to just keep going, pushing, harder, longer. Right? That's what you're used to. It has worked in the past. But, THAT thing that you keep thinking about, have nightmares about and can't stop remembering is starting to wear on you. Your usual methods of coping isn't cutting it, and you're thinking about talking to a psychologist.

Life is hard and you are showing strength, courage, and commitment to create a new path. Counseling is all about discovery of yourself- who you are and how you relate to others. It is also about mourning losses, celebrating memories, and finding peace in your world. My clients come from all walks of life and deal with a variety of concerns. I work collaboratively with both adolescents and adults in defining and working towards their counseling goals. I affirm and respect all cultures and identify as an ally with the LBGTQIA+ community. I believe both in the power of individual choice and the importance of relationships and family.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with an MA in Professional Counseling from Texas State University. I hold certifications as National Board Certified Counselor and a Certified School Counselor. I work with individuals, couples, and families. Working in public education - 10 years as a teacher, and 9+ years as a school counselor - I have had opportunities to foster growth not only among my student-clients, but their families, as well. Childhood experiences define who we are and how we respond to challenges as adults, so it is important for me to connect with the whole person.

I work with people not diagnoses. First and foremost I want my clients to know that they are not on their own. I first began to study counseling psychology because I enjoy helping people. When a person comes into my office it is usually because they are in need of help. Through the use of various psychological techniques I strive to assist those who seek to find what they are looking for. I also offer HIPPA compliant video counseling for convenience.

Hello! I work with individual adults 18+ and seniors 65+. When getting to know new clients, it's important to me to show curiosity, empathy and positive regard. I also offer EMDR specifically for processing traumatic memories and experiences. My favorite interventions include mindfulness and self-compassion exercises along with developing safety and clear communication skills. My goal is for you to feel less alone with your struggles and to experience relief from your symptoms.

I became a therapist after realizing, through my own recovery and spiritual journey, that people heal best when supported to look deeply inward. I pair experiential methods like Psychodrama and Brainspotting with trauma-focused therapies and prayer-healing models to help clients release old wounds and step into clarity, healing, and purpose. My communication is empathetic, spiritually attuned, and practical. It's also very analytical in free-form Jungian-type synthesis. I integrate therapeutic structure with faith-focused encouragement to help clients move toward healing with confidence and purpose.

Does insurance cover therapy, prescriptions and other behavioral health services?
In general, yes. Laws in the U.S. require insurers to cover essential behavioral health care at the same level as other health care services. Most health plans require a medical diagnosis and treatments that are evidence based and medically essential. This means that life coaching and alternative therapies are not covered, nor is therapy without a diagnosis. Call the number on the back or your insurance card or visit your insurance company's website to review your Summary of Benefits. If you have insurance through your employer, your Human Resources department may also be able to answer questions.

How much does therapy cost with insurance?
The cost of therapy depends on your region, how much training and experience your therapist has, and the type of treatment. The rate for talk therapy generally falls between $100 and $250. For a client seeing an in-network provider, the cost of therapy is often similar to the cost of other health care services. Clients pay co-pays and may need to satisfy a plan’s deductible before benefits kick in.

What is the difference between In-Network and Out-of-Network insurance coverage?
An in-network provider has contracted with an insurer to get paid directly for services, and to accept the insurer’s rate of compensation. Clients are responsible for deductibles and copays. If a therapist is out of network, that means that the client pays the therapist directly for services at the therapist’s regular fee. Out-of-Network providers often give clients a receipt so that they can file for partial reimbursement with their insurance company.

Is it difficult to find an In-Network therapist?
It is not unusual for therapists to limit the number of insurance patients in their practice, so it’s important to check in-network availability when you schedule your first appointment. In regions and times where therapy is in high demand it may take longer to get scheduled with an in-network therapist.

What is the difference between HMO and PPO insurance plans?
HMO health plans only cover in-network services, there is no reimbursement for out-of-network providers. PPO plans often cover both in- and out-of-network services, though the client may pay more for out-of-network services.

What is a Superbill?
A superbill is a receipt for therapy services. It provides all the information required by insurance companies to reimburse you for out-of-network services, including the diagnostic codes for your care, the amount paid, and the dates and duration of care.

Does insurance cover Online therapy?
Many therapists who shifted their practice to online therapy during the pandemic have kept that arrangement. And most insurers continue to cover telehealth services, with a few exceptions. Preventive care (such as an annual depression screening) is often required to be in-person to be covered, and some states require prescribers of controlled substances to see those patients in person.

Does insurance cover Group therapy?
Many insurance plans provide coverage for group therapy provided there is a medical diagnosis for group members, but there are some noteworthy exceptions. For example, Medicare does not always cover group therapy. Group therapy tends to cost less than individual therapy.

Does insurance cover Couples therapy?
Most insurance companies do not cover the cost of couples therapy because there is no medical diagnosis or medically necessary treatment. However, a few plans will offer a limited benefit, so it is still worth checking with your insurance company. Sometimes therapy is covered for a couple when one person has a diagnosis and another family member joins them for joint therapy, but it is considered therapy for the medical condition that includes a family member as a listener or helper, not couples counseling. Without insurance, most clients pay between $100-300 per 60-90 min session for couples therapy. Often clients can find classes or workshops that make it more affordable to work on their relationship. And some employers offer benefit plans that help defray the cost of couples therapy. Learn more about Insurance Coverage and Finding Affordable Therapy
