Relationships are difficult! Taking care of a partnership is not something we are taught how to do, and many of us didn’t have good models of this growing up. You and your partner are stuck in unhealthy patterns that you feel are related to your troubled past. Intimacy starts with a secure connection. When you feel safe in a relationship, you can disagree and be authentic. You can grow as individuals, without threatening the relationship. If you and your partner are resentful, feeling stuck, acting out, or otherwise off-course, then you may be in need of some help. I can support you in re-connecting and thriving again.

I integrate evidence-based practices (Cognitive-Behavioral, Acceptance and Commitment, Family-Systems, Interpersonal, Psychodynamic, EMDR, child- parent & Infant- Parent therapies) with a person-centered, culturally humble and trauma-informed lens.
When we are suffering, often the greatest antidote is someone to share our suffering with. Research in psychotherapy effectiveness shows that the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important factors predicting helpfulness of therapy. I see my role as providing a supportive therapeutic space to foster growth, healing, and healthy relationships. It takes great courage to face our human vulnerabilities and for each person the journey is unique. Regardless of your reason for entering therapy, our work will be informed by who you are, what you value, and where you want your life to go.

I also offer consultation regarding parenting and educational approaches for young people with diverse neurodevelopmental styles and/or behavioral and emotional challenges.
I help young people (ages 6-30) understand their strengths and challenges, discover healthy ways to express and manage their needs, and accept support from those who care about them. Many lack important skills and resources to navigate the demands of school, relationships, or stressful life events, instead becoming "stuck" in unhealthy or ineffective patterns that may concern and confuse others. Through our work and collaboration with their families and other care providers, my patients typically experience significant improvements in their self-awareness, confidence, communication, decision-making, and social interactions.

Transitions and change can be difficult and can often lead to feelings of anxiety, loneliness, and depression. These feelings are common responses to experiences like relationship/work stress and family conflict. The process of healing through pain is an individual and unique one and sometimes we struggle with our ability to effectively cope with the feelings that these experiences and life changes bring. You may find yourself in need of a little guidance and support and my goal is to provide a space where you feel safe in that experience. Healing can be facilitated when you no longer feel like you are struggling alone.

Patients have highlighted my ability to hold compassion towards them and towards the people they have difficult relationships with (whether parents, kids, spouse, or friends) and this has helped them to find compassion towards them which leads to healthier relationships and boundaries.
I don't use cookie-cutter techniques because I understand that everyone has different strengths as well as needs. I like to be a team with my patient where they are the experts of their lives and I'm the expert in de-tangling and supporting them through difficult situations with empathy, compassion and when needed, techniques and psycho education. Patients can expect me to inquire why they have come to therapy, what happened and what their goals/expectations are. Then I will also want to know about their past to better understand how they have gotten to where they are, during this I will be highlighting strengths and needs.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
