As a Marriage and Family Therapist for 25 years I have extensive experience helping couples and individuals confront life's challenges. My goal is to help you transform life's difficulties into opportunities for growth and change. By employing various innovative techniques and strategies your dreams can become realities. Anger, fear, judgement and doubt have a tendency to get in the way of achieving our goals and can render us feeling isolated and hopeless. Remember, your feelings of joy, confidence, optimism and hope that we possessed. Those feelings can be revived and reborn in a safe, trusting therapeutic environment.

Because of the Covid Pandemic, children, teens, and adults are facing symptoms of depression, social anxiety, coping skills, and emotional highs and lows. Group therapy helps children and youth in a variety of ways. Learning new ways to think, cope, and interact is beneficial to emotional growth. Relating to others with the same issues allows the client not to feel alone or different. Group therapy is a time of forming healthy relationships, learning how to set boundaries, and enhancing one's self-esteem. Group therapy is now being offered for the winter of 2023 in Rockwall, Texas at 469-769-1121.

Andrew is accepting new clients! Realizing you could use help does not make you broken, it makes you human. A person who can benefit from counseling realizes that if they could have fixed a problem on their own, they would have done it by now. They realize that they could benefit from having a professional listen and help them better tell and re-frame their story. This person believes that they are committed to make needed change to become the best version of themselves. A person who benefits from counseling is there because they want to be and they fully buy-in to the process. Start simply and simply start by reaching out now!

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
