You are exhausted. You feel lonely and like no one “gets it”. You’ve tried everything you know to feel better, but nothing is working. Sometimes we don’t realize how our thoughts and the stories we tell ourselves can hurt us even more. That’s where I come in. I’m here to help you examine your beliefs, how they came to be, and ways of coping that may be harmful. Together we can create goals and an action plan that will help you feel better. I work with people who are experiencing chronic illness. As someone who has lived with diabetes for over 30 years, I get it. I also specialize in grief/loss, depression, and
codependency
.

Societal norms have taught us we should be at a certain place in our life by a certain age, generational traumas don't exist, being one gender or loving one gender is an anomaly and that being "traditional" is the road map to a happy life. The unrealistic expectations for who we are can be suffocating that it leaves us numb with no one to turn to. I am here to be your sacred friend, a pillar in self-discovery and offer a different perspective. I am here to watch you snatch your power back and indulge in having grace with yourself during this time of self-identity through self-awareness, self-care, self-love and self expression.

Many of my clients are also individuals seeking healthier relationships and create change in their lives by taking ownership of their own growth areas; many work to incorporate healthy boundaries, assertiveness, healing from shame, and discovering untapped strengths. Families come for support with parenting and other issues.

Do you ever feel like words fall short of expressing how you truly feel? I understand how intimidating reaching out for help can be, but art therapy allows us to express ourselves with our visual voice rather than words. Even better yet, art therapy does not require any prior experience or creative skill because it is about the process rather than the final product. I enjoy working collaboratively with clients of all ages and I am passionate about providing a safe and creative space for healing and growth where you feel supported, seen, heard, and understood.

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.
What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.
How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.
What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
