I've worked with preteens, teens, and adults in the Education sector for over 15 years. I now have the privilege of working with the same populations in a private practice environment, which provides more freedom to focus on the needs of my clients and their families. Most of my clients are teens and adults experiencing
anxiety
, school issues, identity struggles, relationship difficulties, or career dissatisfaction. My clients make changes to increase their satisfaction in their daily lives through committed action between sessions.

We've all heard the sayings "life isn't fair" or "life is hard" and while that may be true it doesn't mean we must traverse it alone. When life takes you down the "road less traveled", it can lead to confusion,
anxiety
, or anger; it can even happen when on the worn, familiar pathway. Sometimes we just need a neutral person to talk with, to express our concerns, and explore our options. Regardless of your troubles I can be that neutral person and together we can work our way through the brambles.

JFK said children are our most valuable resource and our best hope for the future. With that said, why would we not invest in our children? These are challenging times. Every day seems to bring some sort of new hurdle or obstacle whether it be the pandemic, school shootings, an economic recession; the list goes on. Talking to someone can make this an easier load to carry, and who wouldn't want that?

My clients are those who find themselves processing at the end of the day. They either don't have time to take care of themselves, lack community support, or use the business of the day to drown out the internal noise. They wrestle with sadness, doubt, fear,
anxiety
, past pain, and difficult relationships. They may be outsiders - feeling alone, misunderstood, or unaccepted. They are motivated to get help, but might not know exactly how to do it, yet. They are thoughtful, and courageous enough to give therapy a try. They also know that their time is valuable, and that online therapy saves them time, energy, and money.

Your challenges might present in several ways: PTSD,
anxiety
, depression, grief, sleep disturbances, behavioral or relationship challenges, or other symptoms. Despite the many labels we use, many of these challenges are caused by trauma. Your trauma might originate in your childhood, have been caused by one or several events, or be related to a near-death experience or a spiritually transformative experience. It might also express itself in difficulties integrating your beliefs with your lived experience or identity (religious trauma). You are looking for support, healing, and growth in the safety of the counseling relationship.

We become comfortable with the uncomfortable and then we often question ourselves on the choices we made. The unknown can seem more uncomfortable but what does it take to feel confident in making those changes? The Wellness Model is centered on healthy lifestyles, experiencing less
anxiety
, depression, etc, when all dimensions of the self are being cared for. These dimensions include physical, emotional, occupational, spiritual, social, and intellectual wellness. This model is coupled with Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy in which the participant engages in mindful changes to the thought process to invoke healthier and more realistic thought and feeling.

One of the greatest things about life is the opportunity we have to truly discover ourselves whether it is alone or through close relationships. However, sometimes we get lost and we may feel alone, anxious, depressed, stressed, unimportant, alone or feel disconnected from the world. As much as we try to reach for life it can sometimes feel strange to feel or explain what is going on with us but counseling gives you the opportunity to feel safe. Seeking out help makes you strong, and gives you power to face your
fears
. This process may feel intimidating, but I strive to make counseling fit each persons unique experience.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
