Drawing from decades of working with people in a wide range of settings, I integrate a Christ-Centered practice with my clinical training in a variety of treatment modalities, including EMDR and CBT.
As a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, I consider it an honor to help you navigate the storms of life with an approach that builds confidence, trust and hope using time-proven techniques. My counsel is based on the combination of both my Christian faith and my psychodynamic understanding of how people heal and mature. My goal is to build with you a trustworthy, empathetic and clarifying relationship, and to rejoice with you in the healing process. With God’s good help, for over 33 years, I have walked alongside individuals seeking resolution to a wide range of life challenges and psychological issues.

I am trained in EMDR therapy.
There is a season in everyone's journey when you need an objective listener to affirm your strengths and identify any self-defeating patterns preventing you from being your best self. Over the past 20 years, I have valued collaborating with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, life transitions, women's issues, career struggles, spirituality, overcoming abuse, healing relationships, coping with chronic/acute medical conditions, preparing/coping for retirement, care-giving, and terminal illness. Grieving is a natural response to any significant loss. I see adults 23 yrs and up. No children, teens, or couples.

This is where EMDR comes in.
That painful event keeps replaying over and over in your head. You can’t stop seeing the images of it. Thoughts of what you could have done differently play on repeat. They force their way into your mind, leaving you overwhelmed, panicked, and burnt out. The triggers are everywhere and anxiety and depression feel like they’re constantly looming over you. If you could just let it go maybe you could move on with your life. You no longer want to carry the weight of what happened but to enjoy the things you once loved.

I am an English/Spanish counselor whose main goal is to help my clients find hope, resilience and solutions to their problems. My academic and life experiences have shown me that most challenges and frustrations have solutions. I help my clients understand that the solution is within him/her during those moments when they feel they're unable to endure life's challenges and problems. We uncover the "where, when, and how" and then we find the "why" (reasons) underlying the feelings of doom and frustration. This allows us to discover and implement workable solutions.

Tired of feeling helpless, constantly worried or not enjoying the things you once did? Perhaps you constantly feel, lonely, angry, scared, or sad which seems heavy especially if you're dealing with it on your own. Racing negative thoughts, difficulty sleeping, not feeling motivated, or lack of energy sometimes affects your daily routine. Maybe it's the heart racing, tightness in your shoulders and chest, sweaty palms or clouded mind that get in the way of feeling like yourself. I hear you! I welcome you to not deal with that on your own.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
