Life is full of challenges and hardships that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and unsure of how to move forward. From transitions into motherhood or a new job, to the loss of a loved one or the pressures of adolescence, it's not uncommon to feel like we're being swept off our feet. As a licensed professional counselor associate, I understand the courage and vulnerability it takes to seek help and let a stranger into your most intimate thoughts. My passion lies in building positive client-counselor relationships that leave you feeling heard and seen, without judgment.

As a therapist, my goal is to assist you in the development and achievement of your own goals. When we consider the way we are raised, the way we are taught how to behave, and how we experience life, this is what makes every one of us unique. My focus as your therapist is to help you process and grow through your experiences. In a session with me, we will work together to learn new and healthy ways of coping, identifying and expressing emotions both past and present, and continue to take steps forward for a future worth living.

No waitlist! Can see you this week - Philosopher Lao Tzu said “a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” I commend you on taking that step. You have shown a lot of courage searching for someone to help you on your journey. Maybe you feel like you have already tried everything, but there are other paths to be explored. Together we can find "you" again, and move forward. No one needs to be "fixed". What is needed are new skills to help cope with life's challenges. If you are uncertain about your needs, please call/email me. Together we can discuss options and next steps.

Life can be difficult to navigate and we all can use an empathetic ear and encouraging word, I hope to be that for my clients. Facing big life changes, anxiety, depression, loneliness, bullying, panic attacks, and other difficulties can be debilitating and even scary. It is my goal to listen to my clients and teach them the tools they need to navigate these difficult feelings. As a mom I know how difficult it can be to watch your child struggle with any issue they may face. It is my goal to walk through these difficult times with you and provide you and your child with the support you need.

In the words of Mr. Rogers, “Knowing that we can be loved exactly as we are gives us the best opportunity for growing into the healthiest of people." This is the same perspective I aim to bring with me into each and every therapy session. Hi! I’m Karissa J., LMFT-A supervised by Tanya Alexander, Ph.D, LMFT-S, ATR-BC. I believe there is healing when we connect with another human in being seen, heard, and supported. I enjoy working with couples and families in helping them heal. I also have over 16 years experience working with kids and teens as a teacher, which has provided me valuable insight in how to connect with your child.

Accepting New Clients! How we talk to ourselves is a direct reflection of how we feel about the world around us. These thoughts can come from others or internally. Changing our thoughts and patterns is difficult, but necessary. Traumas, stressors, anxiety, and depression are all factors. Each person has a unique experience in life. Becoming the best version of ourselves is the goal. Working through life's stressors is necessary for healing and growth.

Your struggles and challenges don’t define you; your story is so much bigger than whatever brings you to therapy. I'm Antonina Jordt, a Licensed Master Social Worker, and I became a therapist because I know what it’s like to feel discouraged, to be lost. I know what it's like to feel lonely like no one else will understand. I know what it's like to be haunted by the ghosts of your past. I also know what it's like to keep going, overcome, and courageously identify the things that bring you happiness. I believe that you can do that, too.

The first step to getting healthier is often asking for help. When looking at mental health, however, that can be scary and overwhelming. Many people have tried to express their struggles, only to be met with shame. We get stressed, we lash out at ourselves or others, then sit in the shame and guilt that follows. Maybe you struggle in relationships, regulating your thoughts and emotions, or experience self-defeating behaviors. To move towards growth and progress in any area of life, you must feel accepted, cared for, and supported.

Counseling is my second career. I have always been in a helping profession and my journey to becoming a clinician began as a teacher. Helping others has always been a passion of mine whether it was in the classroom or in a counseling office. In every client that I have ever had the privilege to be a part of their journey, it has always been my sincere hope that I could at least plant a seed of hope and inspiration. I see clients with various issues. I focus on teen and women issues but do see individuals for many other issues, such as trauma and depression.

Everyone experiences challenges in life differently. Sometimes it can feel like walking uphill (challenging, but doable) while other times it can feel like an impossible climb up a steep mountain. When faced alone it can be daunting and become a scary place. Trauma, anxiety, depression, or life struggles can take control of your thoughts and imprison you into thinking you're all alone. Taking a step forward to get help can be difficult, but very brave. I believe in working side by side with you to help you work through life's challenges to find your inner confidence and hidden voice.

It is my belief that people are inherently good and doing the best they can. However, sometimes we all need additional support to get through difficult times. Consequently, I consider the therapeutic relationship to be a powerful tool that can help you gain awareness into behaviors and issues that may be keeping you “stuck”. Since we are all unique, I believe in honoring your individuality by taking an integrative approach to the therapeutic process. My goal in treatment is to meet you where you are, and provide a safe and compassionate environment in which you can heal and grow.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
