Counseling is not just for times of crisis—it’s a pathway to growth, resilience, and healthier relationships. While many people hesitate to begin therapy because it feels intimidating or uncomfortable, the truth is that change often begins the moment we feel safe enough to share our story. My goal is for you to have a supportive space where you can be heard without judgment, discover new ways to cope, and take steps toward the life you hope to live. If you’re searching for a place where your struggles are taken seriously and your healing journey is valued, I am here to walk with you.

Today our complicated and fast-paced lives are full of pressures that challenge us in countless ways. "How can I find happiness in my marriage?", "How do I cope with...?", and "Why do I feel so out of control?" are some of the questions I hear from clients seeking to understand their life journey and questioning what they can do to reach their true potential - individually, as a couple, or as a family. Soul searching is rarely an easy path to take, yet wanting to achieve an emotionally healthy life is usually the motivator which begins the process.

If you’re like me, you know what the right thing is. After all, you’re the expert on you. But that’s just the problem, isn’t it? You know the right thing, you know what’s true, and yet still you struggle with self-criticism and doubt. You know you can’t be perfect, and yet you feel shame for not being enough. And you don’t know how to reconcile what you know with what you feel. Truthfully, this is a common problem. But just because it’s common, doesn’t mean you have to go along with it.

Welcome! I’m so happy that you have taken this step to find peace, truth, and healing. Due to negative experiences we have had to endure, many times we learn unhelpful behaviors and beliefs over time. I believe that healing takes place when you have someone to walk alongside to create space where you can safely deal with what concerns you without shame and without judgement. My goal is to create that space and to be that person who will walk with you as you confront what is no longer serving you and develop lasting change.

I see counseling as a helping profession and I strive to create a safe space for each client to explore and understand emotions and events that influence our lives. But I also see the growth and satisfaction that come from taking the chance and doing the work.

Life is messy and complex. We all want to bring order into many areas of our lives. Where we miss the mark is thinking the goal is to completely solve every issue so we don't experience pain or suffering. Personally, professional or romantically we are going to have deficits. Along with the trappings of guilt, shame, fear and anxiety as well as how to deal with our thoughts, feelings and actions. Once you have done the work that brought you here to begin with, you will be able to navigate life more effectively. You'll have greater insight and coping skills even if it doesn't solve everything. And we both know you can live with that.

How does the Gottman method work?
One of the core doctrines of the Gottman method is that negative emotions hurt relationships about five times more than positive emotions help them. Thus, couples require five times more positive interactions than negative interactions with each other. The therapist will guide clients on how to improve communication and understanding of each other to manage conflict and have their emotional needs met. The therapist will also advise couples on how to repair relations with each other when conflict arises, and therefore avoid lasting damage.
Is the Gottman method evidence-based?
Yes, this method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy. The method is based on more than 40 years of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman, the psychologists who developed the method. The Gottmans analyzed decades of data to draw conclusions about what types of interactions are likely to lead to specific results, and which interventions are most likely to lead to success. Studies have found that this approach leads to improvements in relationship satisfaction, intimacy, communication skills, and a lower rate of divorce.
How long does the Gottman method take?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and an average course of treatment is around 10 sessions. In some cases, such as for couples dealing with a critical problem, the therapist will suggest an intensive course of treatment, with daily sessions over the first two to four days. Treatment is complete when the couple is satisfied and has met the goals they’ve set, and when the therapist believes they have the skills to continue on their own.
Is the Gottman method effective?
Through the Gottman method, couples can achieve changes that are real and sustainable. This treatment has been used for more than 40 years; the method is supported by empirical research, including randomized controlled trials that have demonstrated effectiveness in improving relationship outcomes for couples. Like any talk therapy, success or failure depends in large part on how committed the clients are to making positive changes and working toward results.
