I'm about love, self-compassion, radical acceptance, embracing failure, trusting your innate wisdom and starting over. I fundamentally believe in every person's ability to recover from trauma, addiction and life, in general. Experience has taught me that no one is really avoiding anything. When people accuse you of not dealing with something, what they are really saying is you aren't dealing with it the way they want you to. From my perspective, if you wake up every morning and breathe in and out all day long, you're dealing with your stuff. A tiny bit of intention is all it takes to begin healing.

Hi, I’m Swapomthi. Beginning therapy can feel like a leap into the unknown, but it can also be one of the most meaningful steps you take toward healing and growth. I believe that therapy is not about “fixing” you, it’s about walking with you as you rediscover your own strength, clarity, and balance. I’m an LPC with years of experience supporting individuals, couples, and families through life’s many transitions. I’m also a San Antonio native, mother of three, first-generation American, and someone who has known loss, and all of those roles have shaped how I show up in the therapy room: grounded, compassionate and real.

"As we all know too well, life can be completely unpredictable! I say control the controllables and by that I mean your well-being and mental health. At times you just want to be heard and that is exactly what I provide." I am along for the ride, but keep in mind you are in the driver's seat and ultimately only you can pick your final destination. I truly believe in the power of the 'here and now' and believe that you can consciously make efforts to reach happiness, whatever that happiness may look like for you.

I'm here to hold safe space for the questioning, the unlearning, and the becoming. Therapy doesn’t have to feel overly serious or like you’re doing it “wrong.” I believe healing can be deeply meaningful and imperfectly human... and that sometimes laughter, curiosity, and a little whimsy belong in the therapy room right alongside the hard stuff. I work with adult individuals and couples who are navigating relationship challenges, emotional overwhelm, identity shifts, and the quiet (or not-so-quiet) feeling that something just isn’t working anymore. I believe therapy works best when it feels collaborative rather than clinical.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
