You're likely here because you're stuck in some way. Others seem to be living life, but you can’t. Something's in the way. This feeling may have come about after a dramatic change in your life- a loss of a relationship, role, or life situation. Or, it may feel as if this is coming from nowhere, with no rhyme or reason. “I have no reason to be feeling this way, but I can’t help it." Often, beginning to understand exactly what is going on for you, even if you already have a sense of it, can be an incredibly meaningful experience in and of itself...

Being young is tricky; parenting is tough. Maybe you, your child, or your teen feels scared, sad, or angry. Maybe stress or unexpected events have disrupted routines and behaviors. When children struggle, families often feel confused, overwhelmed, or worried. We all face strong emotions, but youth often lack skills for sharing them. Instead, they use the tools they have to communicate – their behavior. So, families end up feeling stuck in cycles of fear, frustration, and disappointment. When we aren't “speaking” the same language, it can be hard to balance needs and feelings with life's demands. I can help you regain your footing.

I work with older adolescents (16-19), adults, couples, and families dealing with a wide range of challenges such as transitions, low self-esteem, lack of boundaries, anxiety, self-doubt, and lack of purpose.
Counseling for me was a calling and not a “job”. I have a heart for people and their stories. My approach to therapy is gut-led and judgment free (because you’ve had enough of that), grace-full, and uniquely tailored to each person as we align, explore and process meaning and self-limiting beliefs that are disrupting your life’s story.

I am so glad that you are considering starting therapy! I know that this can be a hard process to begin, and I want to make it as comfortable as possible, with the hope that I am the right therapist for you! I work with women who are struggling with their future. Sometimes, there is confusion about the next chapter, pain from traumatic experiences, or a lack of self-love, to name a few unfortunate possibilities. Experiencing pain or feelings of emptiness does not have to be permanent. My clients desire to be free from any pain and build a restored sense of hope.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
