Therapy can be a vital space for individuals from marginalized communities to process trauma shaped by systemic inequality, discrimination, and cultural stigma. It offers room for heavy emotions to soften, for identity to be affirmed, and for clarity to emerge through lived experience. In that space, resilience deepens, empathy expands, and personal power is reclaimed. Grounded in cultural awareness and respect, therapy supports healing, strengthens voice, and helps individuals move toward a more Authentic, supported, and self-defined life.

Waitlist for new clients
Currently on a waitlist. Please submit your information if you would like to be added to a waitlist. It’s incredibly isolating to be told you’re 'the problem' in your relationship, especially when you’re doing your best and still feel lost on how to fix things. I work with individuals who feel stuck in this cycle of frustration, shame and overwhelm. Together, we’ll move past the blame to look at the big picture. By identifying your existing strengths and deciphering your partner’s needs, I provide the tools and encouragement you need to transform into the partner you want to be—and build the relationship you deserve.

When imagining my ideal client, I don't think about issues or a niche, I think about our connection. Connection is truly the foundation of a therapeutic relationship that results in the best outcomes for the client. Making a connection with a clinician who can hear you and the issues you would like to work on is an important step in making whatever changes you would like to see take place in your life. Taking the first step to investigate this connection, through a free 15 minute phone call would be the best way for us to evaluate this together!

Do you feel as though therapy is a taboo subject or that family secrets should be kept within the family? Does your spouse struggle with the idea that therapy means your relationship is failing? I am passionate about breaking the negative distortions that couples and families often carry regarding therapy. I intend to provide you with a confidential and safe talking space for couples and families to work out your feelings and address underlying problems that may cause conflict. The best part about therapy is that not a single other person in your social circle must know that you are seeking therapy unless you decide to tell them.

My strongest belief as a therapist is that there must be a connection between therapist and client, one of trust and respect. Not all therapists are a right fit for you, you have to find the therapist you connect with. I have worked with individuals and their families to gain skills for coping with and managing issues surrounding depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, grief, PTSD, and behavioral struggles along with relational and personal issues. I have worked with adolescents and adults in hospital outpatient settings as well as private practice.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counseling for seniors and the elderly different from counseling for other age groups?
In general, counseling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialize in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counseling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counselors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counselors specializing in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counselors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
