I also utilize
EMDR
to address trauma that is possibly impacting your daily life.
Having a baby is a huge life transition individually and for the family. Change can happen in an instant but navigating your personal transition in response to that change takes time so it is important to nurture yourself through pregnancy and postpartum. During the perinatal period, anxiety can feel overwhelming especially if you are having scary thoughts and difficulty regulating emotions. You are not alone and at times motherhood is hard. It's okay to make yourself a priority and be mindful of what you are feeling and needing. When we take care of ourselves, we are then better equipped to be there for others in our life.

I believe we all have the capability to grow and move into a place of wholeness. I aspire to walk alongside my clients as they grow and evolve; shedding unhelpful truths, memories, or behaviors you may have gathered along your journey. I can help you heal from old trauma wounds, gain insight about your inner world, learn to become an observer of your thoughts/emotions, and gain helpful tools to help you in those inevitable hard moments. Curiosity, self-empowerment & authentic human connection will be the cornerstone of our work. We'll laugh, we'll cuss, we'll gossip and we'll cry. Self-healing and wholeness lies within you!

I use

Life can sometimes throw us into situations that seem impossible to handle. It could be a past experience that troubles you, or a current situation that is overwhelming. You may feel inadequate and powerless as a result, like you can't manage everything on your own. You find yourself disconnected from the people you care about and have no time for hobbies and activities that used to bring joy. In addition, you have neglected your health and are not sleeping well, which makes you feel exhausted. You know it is time to make a change but you are not sure where to start.

We have therapists (Licensed, Associates and Graduate Students Interns) who specialize in different age groups (kids, teens, young adults, middle age, and elderly), constellations (individual therapy, couples therapy, family therapy), and targets (pastors & missionaries,
EMDR
, affair recovery, blended families, veterans, grief & loss, play therapy, etc.). If a client requests to incorporate Christian spirituality into counseling, our therapists are well trained to do so. However, we are incredibly respectful of our clients’ faith beliefs, including those who profess faith and those who do not.

Who is EMDR for?
EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.
Why do people need EMDR?
People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.
What problems does EMDR treat?
First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.
What happens in EMDR therapy?
First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
