My areas of expertise include: * Anxiety * Depression * Grief and Loss * Relationship difficulties * Family challenges * Life transitions * Adolescent/Development issues * Divorce recovery * Trauma *.
When you are struggling, one of the most difficult things to do is ask for help. It takes courage, faith, and trust to reach out when life feels unmanageable or overwhelming. Yet taking that one step is often the very best thing you can do for yourself and those you love. I provide compassionate, competent counseling to teens and adults in individual, and family/group settings. I use individualized talk, play, and EMDR techniques to help clients set therapeutic goals and reach them.

I offer individual, couples , and family counseling. Are you wondering how counseling can help you? Sometimes life throws us a curve ball and a specific issue comes up. You and I would consider short term, solution-focused counseling as a strategy to work on your concern. Is there a relationship in your life that feels strained? Our counseling process would likely include working to improve communication patterns and re-discovering the needs of all concerned. For more chronic issues like depression and anxiety, developing coping skills and improving self-talk and self-image can create significant relief in your life.

There's also a chance that your marriage could be saved- replaced with a fun, fulfilling, and deeply connected relationship .
You're torn. The overwhelming urgency and pressure to decide – to make the right decision – is crushing you. Your life, well-being, and sanity hang in the balance while you consider what to do next. On the one hand, divorce feels like a failure, a judgment from others, or even shame. You worry about the effects on your family and already know that this will likely be one of the most expensive things you ever do. But on the other hand, you are suffocating, drowning, unable to be yourself in your marriage. It feels like you have nothing left to give. This moment is hard, and you worry that no matter what you choose to do, you’ll lose.

I am open to 13 and up, I am also open to couples counseling as long as you both are in individual counseling as well.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
