When experiencing life's challenges, we often find ourselves feeling misunderstood and rejected rather than accepted and validated. Our experiences often stand in our way to emotional well-being. My own experience in therapy was a catalyst for launching my career. For me, being a therapist is a lifestyle. I understand that being human is riddled with imperfections. I will help you realize that you are not alone, guide, and encourage you to give yourself grace as you learn to manage these struggles.

Many of us feel like we are barely treading water in our lives-in relationships, work, or just our inner experience. You are not alone. We will start there. I work with individuals, couples, and families that find themselves struggling with relationships, anger, depression, hopelessness, addictions of all sort, anxiety and everything in between. I want to walk alongside my clients to help them find their true selves and find meaning in whatever they do and whoever they intend to be. I use a person-centered, relational approach alongside skills building and mindfulness.

Generally, I work with people who feel stuck; they have a desire for change in their life but don’t know how. They may feel undeserving of change or invalidated by people close to them. Others may feel unsupported in their endeavors or may be struggling to cope with transitions or difficult events. My approach to therapy includes collaboratively working with you to develop goals and interventions for change. In this approach, we will explore your thoughts, feelings, and patterns of behavior.

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I specialize in working with young adults, adults, and seniors, as well as couples. I see counseling as a helping profession and I strive to create a safe space for each client to explore and understand emotions and events that influence our lives. I feel that for the client, good therapy is hard work, requires vulnerability, and can feel like a huge risk. But I also see the growth and satisfaction that come from taking the chance and doing the work.

Counseling can already feel intimidating, and my job isn't to add pressure - quite the opposite actually! I view our time together as a walk on a trail: you'll move forward, discover things, and at times stumble or turn around for a bit. We can talk about navigating anxiety, depression, life transitions, self-identity, and many other concerns.

My approach to counseling is rooted in cognitive behavioral therapy incorporating aspects of interpersonal, relational, insight oriented and solution focused therapies. I work in partnership with a client to achieve the desired goals from counseling. I incorporate mindfulness and positive psychology in my work. I tend to give clients something between sessions that will keep progress moving and help them have ownership of their change process. Additionally, I am trained in Lifespan Integration, Level III, which is a gentle method to help resolve symptoms related to trauma, recent or past.

I was purposed for social work. Therefore it's more of a CALLING than a job. Lastly, I am passionate about the work that I do and have a motto by which I live. If I can help somebody as I pass along, then my living shall not be in vain.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
