Are you the person who keeps it together for your
family
? Do you push aside how you’re feeling so that you can take care of the needs of others? If so, you might be feeling overwhelmed, like you’re too much, or even like you might explode. You might be wondering if you are depressed, have anger issues, or if the people in your life would be better off without you. You probably have never even talked to someone about the thoughts and feelings that you have. But, keeping this to yourself only serves to perpetuate how you feel.

If you or someone you love is experiencing sleepless nights and stressful days due to the grief and trauma of
family
separation contact my office for an evaluation.
Do you have stress and anxiety related to a pending divorce, infidelity, pornography addiction, drugs/alcohol, or violence? Often these "adult" issues become problematic in households where children are involved. Are your children caught in the middle? Poor grades and oppositional/defiant behaviors can result from differing parenting styles or other conflicts between adults in the home. I understand the difficulty of seeking help in situations where feelings of embarrassment, guilt, anger, fear, or shame are involved, and assist my clients in resolving them.

I counsel people in areas like: Women’s issues, anxiety, depression, career/self development, adolescents,
family
counseling, parenting.
Most of my clients need help managing their day to day stressors that bring on anxiety and depression. Most want practical, real- world strategies that are solution focused. They want to be heard and they want reassurance that life can be better. Some people want to “rebrand” themselves to become who they truly want to be and I help them do just that. People want help with self development and self care to enhance their lives. Most people need to tell their story to someone that cares and that they trust. They want to talk with someone that understands and that has insight to help.

Feeling like you belong in this wide world can be difficult. So many feel disconnected, deserted and unloved. Relationships are hard. They are even harder when one is wired differently. Moreover, for many, being neurodiverse results in a string of trauma and rejection, making the journey more challenging. Finding a therapist who understands both neurodiversity and trauma can feel impossible. Reaching out for help when we have been hurt repeatedly takes true courage. Maybe you have been diagnosed with Autism/ADHD late in life, maybe you are just curious. I believe I have insight to help you carve a new path of acceptance & healing.

The definition of Metanoia means the journey of changing one's mind, heart, self, or way of life. I am here to guide my clients on this journey that can be challenging, as well as rewarding. Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end (Robin Sharma). I believe that changing the way we think in a positive way and sprinkled with humor, creates resiliency. I believe this process is a Biblical one, found in Romans 12:2...but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
