Whether you are at the dinner table with your family, sitting next to your partner on the couch, or in an office full of coworkers, feeling unnoticed and unheard is a horribly painful experience. Our relationships should be a source of empowerment, safety, and comfort. Not a source of chronic anxiety, stress, and
grief
. Whether it is the relationship you have with yourself, your spouse, partner, child, parent, or co-parent you are looking to heal and improve, with some fine tuning, we can build upon the skills and strengths you already have to create more meaningful and positive interactions in your everyday life and relationships.

Accepting New Virtual and In-Person Clients! “Empathy fuels connection, sympathy fuels disconnection.” - Brene Brown. Empathy + connection equals the fuel you need to succeed. Empathy is a powerful tool that can be used to truly acknowledge and see others for who they are. Most of us have never truly experienced what it means to be heard, understood, and loved. Some of us would probably even say we haven’t always felt encouraged to embrace our true selves. Counseling should feel like a non-judgmental space that is therapeutic, life-giving, safe, & encourages you to grow. Self-awareness of your strengths, weaknesses, experiences,

I believe counseling is a component of overall healthcare. Through the challenges of life people need an accepting place to share their story and perspective in order to gain insight into their challenges and strengths. I will provide a warm, compassionate presence to people from birth to geriatrics. I earned my Masters degree in Counseling from Southern Methodist University in Plano, Texas with specialty training in Play Therapy, Activity Therapy, Child Parent Relationship Training, Group Therapy, and Geriatrics. There, I worked with age groups ranging from young children to adults seeking counseling for various life and mental health challenges.

I have been in education for 35 years and served adolescents as a counselor for the past 20 years. My areas of interest include anxiety, panic attacks,
grief
and phobias that clients often experience. What I find most helpful to people is to provide a warm and safe place to express the feelings and experiences in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I also believe it is important to instill confidence in them. These days it seems the relationship between client and therapist is more important than ever and I hope to build such bonds.

I take the role of an advocator, supporter, and non-judgmental listener. I work with those who have the hope to seek growth, change, and well-being in their lives. I strive to focus on supporting those who seek healing from difficult traumas, hurtful

, heartache, and any incongruencies that they see are damaging their lives. This can be evident for the young and older, the sexual or gender minority, and any culture or race. Clients need a safe place to share their unique world and it is my goal to provide that. When we feel safe, un-biasedly heard and embrace a healthy vulnerability....true self-growth occurs.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
