Anxiety and depression can feel all-consuming, especially when the cause isn’t clear. Whether it's rooted in ongoing stress, unresolved trauma, or difficult childhood experiences, these emotions often show up as constant worry, exhaustion, trouble sleeping, irritability, or feeling stuck and disconnected. These aren’t signs that you’re broken. They’re signs that your mind and body have been doing their best to cope. But you don’t have to stay in survival mode.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing that something needs to change; it’s understanding why you still feel stuck. You may notice anxiety that won’t quiet, relationship patterns that keep repeating, emotional reactions that feel bigger than you want them to be, or a sense that you’ve drifted away from who you used to be. Even when life looks “fine” from the outside, internally it can feel heavy, disconnected, or exhausting. Therapy offers a space to slow down, make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, and begin moving forward with more clarity and intention.

Hey there! My name is Jamie Dock, MS, LPC. I primarily work with young adults struggling with anxiety, LGBTQ+, racial, and other marginalized community related issues. I enjoy helping clients build functional coping skills, explore how a complicated past impacts present day issues, and recognize how their strengths bring light to the world. One of the things I value the most in the work is building trust with my clients. While establishing and achieving goals help us to move forward, sometimes we just need to feel listened to and understood.

I focus on creating an open and accepting space for my clients where we can identify struggles, goals, and treatment options. Your time is about you and your needs, so I always try to emphasize that level of control you have over the session. Some see therapy as going to someone who gives advice or their own opinion. I see it as a therapist providing the space and tools for you to come do the work you're wanting to achieve.

I like to start by asking a simple question: Imagine waking up tomorrow and noticing your life feels exactly the way you want it to. What would be different? What would you feel, think, or do differently? Your answer often points toward what matters most to you and can guide our work together in therapy.

Sometimes life can throw a lot at us and we are hesitant to ask for help when we need it. Stress can come from various places and can often hide making it challenging to see what’s coming until it’s right on top of us. This can lead to emotional dysregulation which can cause us to feel lost or a sense of instability. Being here now is a big step in the healing process. Together we will work to create a safe space for you and/or your loved one to create support and establish skills needed to bring balance and stability back into your life. We will help you tap into your inner abilities so that you can be your most authentic you.

Anger Management Therapists
How long does therapy take for anger management?
Treatment duration depends on the person’s specific challenges and circumstances. There are treatments for anger problems that are shorter and more goal-oriented, like Cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), which can last weeks to months. Others, like Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) may last between six months and a year, while a more intensive treatment, like psychodynamic therapy, is open-ended, and clients may see their therapist for a year or longer.

How do you know if you need therapy for anger management?
Everyone gets mad from time to time. But when angry outbursts become frequent and cause damage to relationships, whether at home or in the office, it may be a good time to look into therapy. A therapist can assess where a client’s anger may be coming from, suggest strategies for averting angry outbursts, and help a client create a plan to become a calmer version of themselves.

Is there medication for anger management?
Medications do exist that help people mitigate the feeling of anger, but these are reserved for people with anger-related psychiatric disorders, such as intermittent explosive disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, or in some cases borderline personality disorder. In these cases, antidepressant medications may be prescribed to help with the client’s symptoms. In most cases of anger management, however, talk therapy is the recommended treatment, along with lifestyle changes where relevant.

What’s the best way to encourage someone to seek help for anger issues?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either themselves or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
