I treat clients in individual therapy, family and couples therapy.
People generally don't seek out therapy when life or circumstances are going as they hoped or expected. For over 25 years, the practice of psychology has been my chosen profession. I consider it an honor to assist people in better understanding their circumstances and in identifying a path that can lead to growth and healing.

My work centers around helping clients develop skills to master life transitions; such as adolescent development, family conflict, parenting issues, retirement, work and career issues, relationship changes, substance abuse, significant loss, grief, divorce, trauma and coping with mood disorders.
I believe that all people have the capacity to grow and change and that counseling can make profound and lasting changes in your life. My clients are successful people who find themselves challenged during difficult experiences. Counseling is an excellent opportunity to help you learn about your strengths and to explore what you really want out of life and relationships. As an interactive, goal-oriented, solution-focused, and cognitive behavioral therapist, my treatment approach provides support and practical feedback to help clients find solutions for current life challenges. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to determine if my practice is appropriate for your needs.

Suddenly you feel like you're living with a stranger, you have no earthly idea who this person is or how your relationship got to this point. Maybe kids got in the way or you got that punch to the gut from an affair. This person, who you promised to love, honor and cherish is distant and cold. It's frightening and devastating to think this might be the end of your marriage. The distance and pain between the two of you can no longer be ignored. You want more for your marriage.

My counseling style focuses on building a genuine and trusting therapeutic relationship .
Life can get tough sometimes, especially in the times that we are living in. It can become difficult to manage all of our roles and responsibilities, so we avoid them. We find ourselves giving so much to others, only to feel drained ourselves. Handling typical day-to-day stressors can begin to feel unmanageable. And the worry... the uncertainty leaves us feeling stuck and helpless at times. Whatever the case may be for you, it is time to reinvest in your mental and emotional health! Sometimes, we could all use a little extra support and guidance to help us reach our goals and get back onto the path of wellness.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
