I work best with individuals and families navigating major life transitions—whether it's adjusting to a new health diagnosis, managing the emotional impact of caregiving, or facing the complex ups and downs of parenting.
As a social worker for twenty years, I have seen both the incredible hardships that people face as well as human resilience and adaptability. I became a therapist because I believe that healing happens best when we feel seen, heard, and accepted—just as we are. In therapy sessions, I use humor, warmth, and genuine respect to create a safe and supportive space for that purpose.

As an empathetic and warm Licensed Professional Counselor, I strive to create a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel heard, understood, and empowered to work toward meaningful change. I understand that beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, and I believe the therapeutic relationship should be built on trust, collaboration, and compassion. Most people come to see me because they are struggling with emotional or personal problems that interfere with their fulfillment in love and/or work. I am interested in helping them grow their resourcefulness, become aware of patterns that are counter-productive and hard to shift, and develop more satisfying relationships. I like to work with adults of all ages, adolescents, and couples. The young adults and adolescents I see often have trouble navigating developmental phases with loved ones, or challenges with achievement. I continue to learn about new developments in my field, and regularly consult with other experts.

I provide a compassionate space for individuals navigating challenging phases in their life while promoting a lifelong desire for self-discovery and growth. I believe we have an innate need to be seen, heard and intimately connected with other humans. When our connections end abruptly or get ruptured our existing problems get exacerbated and old ways of coping may no longer work. I use a grief and loss lens to work through all kinds of losses (including death and non-death).

Life can be challenging and painful, and we all face uncertainties, disappointments, conflicts, heartbreaks, losses, traumas, and existential questions. At Lighter Counseling, I offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can openly express your thoughts, feelings, and beliefs. Before I became a counselor, I spent twenty-five years in the high-tech world leading product teams for companies as large as Microsoft and as small my own start-up. I spent my days understanding the people who used my software and their lives so I could then work with the amazing software engineers to build the right tools in the way that helped the most.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.

When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.

How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
