I value incorporating
mindfulness
and intention to intrusive thoughts.
Ruin is the road to transformation." I believe experiences shape who we are and embarking on a different experience in a therapy setting can alter your experiences outside of the office. The work is most meaningful whenever clients have an openness and a curiousity to allow different experiences. My main area of growth is currently in my work with anxiety, birth trauma and confidence building, specifically in the LGBTQIA+ community; however, I have a passion for working with all individuals, couples and families.

After twenty years of practice, I continue to find that people are best served by a counselor who is emotionally and psychologically available to them in a time of need. I have enjoyed strong effectiveness working with depression, relationship conflict, grief, and anger management. I work with couples, older adults, teens, and children. These experiences have inspired me to incorporate multiple approaches that fit the personalities, interests and needs that people bring to my practice.

I am an advocate for the healing power of counseling. I can offer guidance and support to the individuals and couples that are willing to start that journey. Life is about facing adversity and coming out stronger on the other side. No one should have to face the world alone. I can offer my clients a safe and understanding environment where they are free to work through the issues that keep them from living the life that gives them meaning. I work with my clients to develop the best treatment goals for meeting their needs. I meet each client where they are and walk with them through their healing journey.

Accepting new clients! The therapeutic process is a healing process. Healing takes place both internally and within the context of relationship. We constantly shift and change day to day, week to week, year to year. Changes can be going from sleeping to waking, from changing our routines, or outdated patterning. Changes can come in the form of a new baby, a new marriage, a new job; and they can also be divorce, death, health issues, or a sudden move. Inherent in every change is a level of questioning, worry, and concern either internal or external. I do believe change is a wonderfully empowering catalyst to growth and healing.

Recently, after more than 22 years in private practice, I have decided to simplify my life. I no longer will be taking insurance. I will only accept self-pay clients at an hourly rate of $50. I work best with normal people who are having trouble negotiating the common difficulties of life. The type client who is most helped is the one who is willing to self-explore and try new thought and behavior patterns. My motto is "Be gentle with yourself" as you work toward personal growth and toward creating the best possible life for yourself and others. I love helping adolescents and adults find joy, productivity, and peace in life.

Mindfulness-Based (MBCT) Therapists
How does mindfulness-based cognitive therapy work?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy originated in the work of John Kabat-Zinn of the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He developed mindfulness-based stress reduction, which is a technique found in yoga and meditation. MBCT is a combination of this type of stress reduction and cognitive behavioral therapy; it essentially quiets emotional distress through mindfulness, utilizing proper breathing and meditation. These techniques aim to bring the individual into the present moment when in a state of distress.
When do I know if I need treatment with mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
If an individual’s mind is filled with emotional distress and general negativity, the person may feel trapped. A mindfulness-based cognitive therapist can help a person change their thinking patterns as well as their behavior through calm acceptance and compassion. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.
What should I expect from mindfulness-based cognitive therapy?
This therapy often takes place in group sessions. A therapist will work with the group as well as with each individual. Meditation and breathing exercises are core practices that aim to invite inquiry and discovery into a person’s troubled mental state. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more realistic way. This therapy is supportive, accepting, and warm.
Is mindfulness-based cognitive therapy effective?
Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with major depressive disorder have benefitted from this type of therapy; the person accepts their distressed thoughts and also moves into healthier patterns of thinking. This therapy also aims to move an individual away from automatic negative responses. This type of therapy can bring a person lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
