I employ several therapeutic counseling techniques such as Short Term, Solution Focused Therapy, Cognitive and Trauma Based Behavioral, Person Centered, Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Mindfulness approaches.
After twenty years of practice, I continue to find that people are best served by a counselor who is emotionally and psychologically available to them in a time of need. I have enjoyed strong effectiveness working with depression, relationship conflict, grief, and anger management. I work with couples, older adults, teens, and children. These experiences have inspired me to incorporate multiple approaches that fit the personalities, interests and needs that people bring to my practice.

I have experience working with many types of clientele ranging from incarcerated individuals, the psychiatric hospital, geriatric care, child and adolescent services, crisis/suicidal/homicidal ideation using a focus in DBT techniques.
Cultivating self awareness skills can be one of the most challenging tasks we attempt to do. Not only do we all have others telling us who we are, we have societal voices telling us who we should be. It can be difficult to navigate alone. Knowing how to balance what we can accept and what we can change may help anxiety within our relationships with others and with ourselves. I invite you to see others and be seen; To look into a mirror and really see ourselves, as we are.

My specialty is a client who has trauma, and they've have never had the help they need for it. They have depression and anxiety and want to lessen them and cannot remember key childhood memories. They may have sought counseling for, but they are still being triggered in their life, and still have not got the relief they so desire. They may have also struggled with substance or other abuse, and they may have given up, or are still seeking relief. The tenets of trauma are multifaceted and the person is impacted emotionally, physically, and mentally, and want to find out how to deal with their past/present to be happier and whole.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
