With individuals, I focus on how stress and emotional reactivity manifest as bodily symptoms such as disordered sleep, attention deficits, mood/
anxiety
disorders, or relationship difficulties.
My approach to psychotherapy has been shaped by my own life experiences as well as professional training. I utilize a mind-body approach and specialize in mindfulness, focused attention techniques, and creative imagery which are known to be very effective for stress-management, sleep difficulties and emotional disorders such as
anxiety
and depression. I have special interest in working with individuals dealing with codependency and relationship issues. I believe that learning to cope with our inner turmoil is one of the cornerstones of being able to live a purposeful and meaningful life.

I am full and not accepting new clients at this time (12.1.22); please check back later for possible openings. Are you feeling like you aren't yourself lately? Maybe you're wondering why everything seems like so much effort or you don't find joy like you use to. Or perhaps
anxiety
is keeping you from living the life you want. Maybe life has thrown you one too many curve balls and you're feeling overwhelmed and hopeless. You may feel alone in your experience. Self-doubt, sadness,
anxiety
are part of the human experience. Our reactions to those thoughts and feelings; however, can lead to overwhelming distress.

anxiety
and depression, etc.
Waitlist only. I hope to establish a compassionate place for you to come and discuss life challenges, obstacles and impacts. Often, impacts from traumas and other stressful events can leave us feeling stuck. We feel stuck as we experience flashbacks, nightmares, overwhelming emotions,
anxiety
and depression. We know the person we want to be, but we just can't seem to get there. I have a passion for helping others to understand how their life experiences have impacted them and how to move forward from these experiences utilizing research-based interventions so that they can achieve their goals.

My practice as a licensed clinical psychologist involves treating clients with multitudes of mental health concerns or just stressors of life. My goal is to be a collaborator rather than an expert in facilitating exploration, reflection, and consideration of alternative problem formulations and interventions. I empower clients by providing a safe, cooperative, nonjudgmental, & confidential environment so that folks may gain flexibility in their thinking and behavior. Through supportive therapy, I will assist clients in understanding how their perceptions, thoughts, and beliefs affect their behavior, mood, and self-esteem.

Too often we go through life feeling less than okay. Many people never slow down to assess their own well-being. We settle for feeling less than our best because we haven't stopped to take a closer look and do the work within ourselves. If this sounds familiar, I can help. I believe that offering a nonjudgmental perspective to you can help you build the life you want. Trying to change all at once is overwhelming, but improvement in one area can often bring progress in another. I am here to be a guide in this process, whether you are struggling with depression,
anxiety
, grief, or another issue.

I am an existential therapist, meaning that I view therapy as a safe place to openly process and explore deeply human concerns. When we consider our existential situation (e.g., the awareness of our own mortality), we often experience overwhelming dread and avoid any further exploration. This avoidance can result in debilitating
anxiety
and depression, often accompanied by substance use issues, low motivation, and unsatisfying relationships. My goal for therapy is to assist you in becoming your most authentic self by helping you to discover meaning in your life and guiding you towards taking responsibility for your existence.

Anxiety Therapists
What are the most common treatments for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
