I specialize in trauma, anxiety, depression.
I believe that validation is key to creating a foundation from which to begin recovering from mental health challenges. If you do not feel validated, you will continue to suffer, often times in silence. I also believe in being my true authentic self with my clients in hopes that this will inspire them to do the same. The important thing for me is that I can meet you where you are and empower you to start making the changes you would like to see. “The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction not a destination.” – Carl Rogers, On Becoming a Person

I treat eating disorders and other related issues (eg., mood disorders, anxiety, trauma).

I work with people dealing with trauma, anxiety and mood issues, relationship dynamics, and identity questions—especially during those times when life feels confusing or unsteady.
Hi, I’m Marena, a clinical psychologist who’s here to walk alongside you as you make sense of what’s going on in your life.
Therapy with me isn’t about lying on a couch while I silently nod—it’s more like having a thoughtful, real conversation where you don’t have to filter yourself. We’ll get into what’s been weighing you down and start making space for things to feel different.

My approach to therapy is to assist you in doing the difficult work of uncovering your true, fully-alive self, amidst this present pain.

I have spent the last 7 and a half years counseling survivors of family violence which allowed me to specialize in treating Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression, Substance Abuse, and Generalized Anxiety.
I believe that clients have the ability to recognize dysfunctional patterns in their lives and, with a little help from the counselor, are able to set attainable goals to change those patterns into something more functional for their lives. I believe that motivation to change is a key component in what makes counseling successful for most people.

I have worked with many clients experiencing anxiety, depression, grief and PTSD in my ten years as a certified yoga therapist.
I believe in the inherent wholeness of the individual and the capacity of the human being to meet, learn, and grow from life's experiences. I view depression and anxiety as messengers asking us to turn toward our grief, tend our pain, and realign ourselves with our heart's true desires. These things can be difficult to do alone. The purpose of the therapeutic relationship is to provide a safe container for healing and exploration. My desire is to support every client in finding innate resilience and felt ease, whatever their current circumstances.

Life can be a challenge. Visiting with me is not going to change your circumstances, but I believe I can help you change the way you experience them. I have often been told that I am a warm, compassionate and nonjudgmental guide that will walk with you through dark times and will cheer you along as you reach new levels of freedom and hope. I do not view myself as an expert that can solve your problems, but rather as one who can sit with you while you wrestle with your deepest fears, hurts and pain and find the answers for yourself.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
